You can develop applications using many operating systems, languages, and tools. Different parts of the application can run inside the database, on an application server, or on a client machine.
Introduces the features needed to develop applications for Oracle Database 10g, particularly triggers and stored procedures. This book also gives a high-level overview of topics covered in more detail in other books, such as PL/SQL, Java, and OCI.
Java
The Java programming language is used for database code that runs inside the database, on a middle tier, or on a client system. Many database components have Java APIs that are documented in the Javadoc format.

SQL and PL/SQL
SQL is the underlying language for all database programming. PL/SQL is tightly integrated with SQL, usually for code running inside the database such as triggers, stored procedures and functions, and PL/SQL packages. SQL*Plus is the command-line tool for running SQL and compiling PL/SQL.

The Oracle C++ Call Interface is an application programming interface that allows applications written in C++ to interact with one or more Oracle database servers. OCCI gives your programs the ability to perform the full range of database operations that are possible with an Oracle database server, including SQL statement processing and object manipulation.

Describes use of large object datatypes BLOB, CLOB, NCLOB, and BFILE in application development. You can use these datatypes to store and manipulate unstructured and semi-structured data in binary or character format.
