File Check Out and Check In Help Prevent Information Loss
When users collaborate on content, the likelihood of collisions between changes increases. In iFS, check-out and check-in provides a file-locking capability to prevent overwriting information.

You can edit the file in place or modify a copy of the file locally. While a file is checked out, that particular file cannot be updated or deleted by anyone else. When you finish modifying the file, you check it in, making the revised version available again to other users.

When the file is ready for publication, you can lock the file preventing everyone, including the owner of the file, from making any further changes.
