The image maxav006.gif shows the LGWR ASYNC transport service. The image contains a primary site and a standby site. The primary site contains the following: log writer process (LGWR), online redo log, network buffer, network server. The standby site contains the following: remote file server (RFS), standby redo log.

A write request arrives at LGWR, which passes it to the online redo log. The online redo log sends a reply back to LGWR, which passes the reply back. LGWR also passes the write request to the network buffer, which sends it to the network server. The network server sends the write request to RFS on the standby site. RFS sends the write request to the standby redo log, which sends a reply back to RFS. RFS sends the reply back to the network server on the primary site.
