1 Introduction

This chapter provides an overview of how to use Oracle Application Server Adapter (OracleAS Adapter). It contains the following topics:

1.1 Oracle Application Server Adapter Overview

The OracleAS Adapter enable you to integrate packaged, legacy, and mainframe applications with the Oracle Application Server components displayed in Table 1-1.

Table 1-1 Oracle Application Server Component Integration with OracleAS Adapter

Component Description
OracleAS Integration InterConnect Enables you to integrate heterogeneous systems such as Oracle applications, non-Oracle applications, and third-party, messaging-oriented middleware (MOM). OracleAS Integration InterConnect is a high-speed message broker that is suited for data and application integration. Integrations can be deployed within an enterprise or across enterprise boundaries through the Internet.
Oracle Application Server Portal Combines a declarative environment for creating a portal Web interface, publishing and managing information, accessing dynamic data, and customizing the portal experience, with an extensible framework for J2EE-based application access. Using OracleAS Portal, organizations can provide employees, partners, and suppliers with the information they need and the flexibility to create views tailored to each community.
Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J) The J2EE server component of Oracle Application Server written entirely in Java that runs on the standard Java Development Kit (JDK) Java Virtual Machine (JVM). OC4J includes a JSP Translator, a Java servlet container, and an Enterprise JavaBeans container.

You can use OracleAS Adapter with the Oracle Application Server components shown in Table 1-1. All Oracle Application Server adapters are included on a single CD-ROM. The OracleAS Adapter CD-ROM consists of adapters for packaged applications.

Table 1-2 describes the packaged adapters available for installation. OracleAS Adapter for packaged applications can be deployed as:

The OracleAS Adapter Application Explorer graphical user interface tool (GUI) is also provided for configuring OracleAS Adapter JCA version 1.0 and OracleAS Adapter Business Services Engine.

Table 1-2 OracleAS Adapter for Packaged Applications

Type Description
OracleAS Adapter for J.D. Edwards OneWorld XE Links the processes of various applications with J. D. Edwards OneWorld's ERP, CRM, or B2B application solutions
OracleAS Adapter for PeopleSoft Enables integration with PeopleSoft Release 8 application systems
OracleAS Adapter for SAP R/3 Enables access to R/3 Remote Function Call modules (RFCs), BAPI modules, and ALE Intermediate DOCuments (IDOCs)
OracleAS Adapter for Siebel Integrates Siebel eBusiness 2000 Enterprise Edition with heterogeneous enterprise applications

Two OracleAS Adapter installation types are available. After selecting an installation type during installation, you select the type of adapter you want to install. Table 1-3 describes these installation types.

Table 1-3 Installation Types

Installation Type Description
Complete Installs the following OracleAS Adapter design time and runtime components:
  • Design time components

Installs the OracleAS Adapter Application Explorer design time component for browsing and extracting Enterprise Information System (EIS) metadata. In addition, OracleAS Adapter JCA version 1.0 and OracleAS Adapter Business Services Engine are configured.

  • Runtime components

Deploys the following runtime components automatically:

    • OracleAS Adapter JCA version 1.0 for integration with OC4J

    • OracleAS Adapter Business Services Engine for integration with OracleAS Portal and OracleAS Integration InterConnect

    • OracleAS Adapter JCA version 1.0 test servlet

Note: The Complete installation type must be installed in the same directory in which the J2EE and Web Cache Middle Tier installation type is already installed.

Design time Installs only the OracleAS Adapter Application Explorer design time component. Use this component to configure the OracleAS Adapter JCA version 1.0 and OracleAS Adapter Business Services Engine. The runtime components are not deployed.

Note: This installation type does not require J2EE and Web Cache or any other Middle Tier installation type.
