This chapter provides an overview of how to use Oracle Application Server Adapter (OracleAS Adapter). It contains the following topics:
The OracleAS Adapter enable you to integrate packaged, legacy, and mainframe applications with the Oracle Application Server components displayed in Table 1-1.

You can use OracleAS Adapter with the Oracle Application Server components shown in Table 1-1. All Oracle Application Server adapters are included on a single CD-ROM. The OracleAS Adapter CD-ROM consists of adapters for packaged applications.
Table 1-2 describes the packaged adapters available for installation. OracleAS Adapter for packaged applications can be deployed as:
A J2CA 1.0 Resource Adapter, which is known as OracleAS Adapter JCA
A Web Services Servlet within the OC4J container, which is known as OracleAS Adapter Business Services Engine
The OracleAS Adapter Application Explorer graphical user interface tool (GUI) is also provided for configuring OracleAS Adapter JCA version 1.0 and OracleAS Adapter Business Services Engine.

Two OracleAS Adapter installation types are available. After selecting an installation type during installation, you select the type of adapter you want to install. Table 1-3 describes these installation types.

J2EE and Web Cache Requirements
If you want to use the Complete installation type, then the J2EE and Web Cache installation type of Oracle Application Server must first be installed. You then install the Complete installation type of OracleAS Adapter into the same Oracle home.
The design time installation type does not require J2EE and Web Cache or any other Middle Tier installation type.
