Oracle Collaboration Suite is licensed with the Collaboration Program User metric.
As with all products for which Oracle provides Oracle On Demand services, you must obtain the software licenses separately from the Oracle On Demand services.
All license packages of Oracle Collaboration Suite include restricted-use licenses for Oracle Application Server 10g (Enterprise Edition), including options; Oracle Database 10g (Enterprise Edition), including options; and Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control, solely for the purpose of running Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g.
The following sections include additional details about the restricted use licensing for Oracle products.
Oracle includes restricted-use licenses for Oracle Database (Enterprise Edition) and select or required options with full-use licenses of Oracle Collaboration Suite, Oracle Unified Messaging, Oracle Content Services, and Oracle Real-Time Collaboration. If you desire to use the Oracle Database (Enterprise Edition) and any options thereto not solely for the purposes of running Oracle Collaboration Suite, you must purchase full-use licenses for Oracle Database (Enterprise Edition) and any options that you would like to use. You can use Oracle Collaboration Suite with the Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition versions of Oracle Database Server. If you obtain full-use licenses for Oracle Database, you should obtain licenses for the version of the Oracle Database appropriate to your use.
Oracle includes restricted-use licenses for Oracle Application Server (Enterprise Edition) and select or required options with full-use licenses of Oracle Collaboration Suite, Oracle Unified Messaging, Oracle Content Services, and Oracle Real-Time Collaboration. If you desire to use the Oracle Application Server (Enterprise Edition) and any options thereto not solely for the purposes of running Oracle Collaboration Suite, you must purchase full-use licenses for Oracle Application Server (Enterprise Edition) and any options that you would like to use. You can use Oracle Collaboration Suite with the Enterprise Edition versions of Oracle Application Server. If you obtain full-use licenses for Oracle Application Server, you should obtain licenses for the version of the Oracle Application Server appropriate to your use.
Customizations to Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g under the restricted-use license are limited to the context of Oracle Collaboration Suite. In other words, customizations that only touch Oracle Collaboration Suite, including but not limited to changes to the Oracle Portal, adding new BPEL processes or systemwide e-mail rules, do not require additional licenses. When customizations touch other products, the Oracle Application Server and Oracle Database must be licensed accordingly. You can customize and add extensions to Oracle Collaboration Suite without purchasing full-use licenses for the Oracle Database or Oracle Application Server provided you are not modifying the database or application server as defined in the existing Oracle Database and Oracle Application Server licensing policies. As with any platform product, there are many ways the product can be modified to meet specific business needs.
Oracle Identity Management can be used with any licensed component of Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g to provision, store, and manage users and groups, and their associated security credentials and privileges; to synchronize data with 3rd-party services; and to store other component-specific metadata. Any custom applications or partner applications that require access to Oracle Identity Management requires purchasing the respective option in Oracle Application Server. Similarly, any change to the Oracle Internet Directory schema requires purchasing the respective Oracle Identity Management option in Oracle Application Server.
Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g includes a restricted-use license for Oracle Portal and several portlets specific to Oracle Collaboration Suite. Only licensed Oracle Collaboration Suite users may access any of the provided portlets. The only exception to this requirement is Oracle Web Conferencing where unnamed meeting attendees who are considered to be outside the enterprise or organization participate in a Web conference; these users do not require an Oracle Collaboration Suite license. The portlets that are included with Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g may be reused in any fully licensed Oracle Portal on the condition that the user who is accessing the portlets is a licensed Oracle Collaboration Suite user, with the exception of Oracle Web Conferencing.
Using the provided portlets or Oracle Portal outside of this context requires separate licensing. The following are examples of how you might use the portlets or Oracle Portal outside of the restricted-use context and the licensing required:
If you wish to incorporate a portlet, other than the ones provided with Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g, into the Oracle Portal provided with Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g, full-use licenses for both Oracle Portal and Oracle Application Server are required.
If you wish to use Oracle Collaboration Suite Web services to create a new portlet that is connected to Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g, and you want to incorporate this portlet into another portal that is not licensed by Oracle, a full-use license of Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g is required.
If you wish to take an Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g portlet and embed it in another portal environment, a full-use license of Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g is required.
With the restricted-use licenses for Oracle Database and Oracle Application Server, you can use Oracle BPEL Process Manager to create, modify, and register new custom workflows for use within the context of Oracle Collaboration Suite. Oracle Content Services and Oracle Workspaces provide APIs and Web services that may invoke either these BPEL workflows or system-defined workflows. If the workflow does not extend beyond Oracle Collaboration Suite, no additional licensing of the BPEL Process Manager is required.
Using the Oracle BPEL Process Manager beyond the context of Oracle Collaboration Suite requires separate licensing. The following are examples of how you might use the Oracle BPEL Process Manager outside of the restricted-use context and the licensing required:
If you wish to create custom workflows using Oracle BPEL Process Manager that either interact with or coordinate other applications or systems not included in the Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g license, then full-use licenses for both Oracle Collaboration Suite and Oracle Application Server are required.
If you wish to use any workflow engine, including Oracle BPEL Process Manager, to control or exercise Oracle Collaboration Suite, then each user of the workflow must be a licensed Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g user.
Regardless of the entity that invokes the BPEL Process Manager workflow, if the BPEL Process Manager accesses services beyond Oracle Collaboration Suite, then a full-use license of the BPEL Process Manager is required.
Oracle Enterprise Manager is the Oracle integrated management solution for managing the complete Oracle environment. All services within your enterprise, including hosts, databases, application servers, and the Oracle Collaboration Suite application, are managed from one central console. Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control provides the central console for viewing, monitoring, and administering your Oracle environment.
As part of a license for Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g, you are entitled to use Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control, including the management packs, to manage the Oracle Collaboration Suite environment: Applications tiers, databases, and applications. If you use Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control to manage Oracle capabilities outside of Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g, a full-use license of Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control is required.
There are several management packs for Enterprise Manager that enhance the functionality of the central console:
Oracle Database Diagnostics Pack 10g – Provides automatic performance diagnostic and advanced system monitoring functionality.
Oracle Database Tuning Pack 10g – Provides database administrators with expert performance management for the Oracle environment, including SQL tuning and storage optimizations. The Oracle Diagnostics Pack is a prerequisite product to the Oracle Tuning Pack.
Oracle Database Configuration Management Pack 10g – Provides the capability to track hardware and software configuration information for hosts and databases managed by Enterprise Manager. This information can be browsed, searched, compared, exported, and tracked historically.
Oracle Database Change Management Pack 10g – Provides database administrators the capability to make complex changes to schema objects safely, track changes to schemas and databases over time, make copies of schemas or objects, and compare and synchronize schemas and databases.
Oracle Application Server Diagnostics Pack 10g – Ensures high availability of mission-critical applications by reducing the complex tasks of diagnosing and correcting application performance problems, providing automatic performance diagnostic and advanced system monitoring functionality.
Oracle Application Server Configuration Management Pack 10g – Improves the efficiency and reliability of software configuration, patching, cloning, policy management, and hardware and software inventory tracking.
