Starting, Stopping, and Restarting Oracle Internet Directory Servers
Starting, Stopping, and Restarting Delegated Administration Servers
After installing Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in, you must enable statistics collection in Oracle Internet Directory. To do this, you must set orclStatsFlag
and orclStatsPeriodicity
, as described in Oracle Internet Directory Administrator's Guide.
Note: When you are collecting statistics for Grid Control, setorclStatsPeriodicity to be the same as the collection periodicity of the Enterprise Manager agent, which is 10 minutes by default. |
Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in includes pages for monitoring and managing the Identity Management Infrastructure. Pages in Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in are grouped into five sets:
The Identity Management Suite
Oracle Internet Directory
Oracle Delegated Administration Services
Oracle Directory Integration Platform
Oracle Application Server Single Sign-On
The Identity Management Suite pages allow you to manage and view information about the suite and also to view high-level information about components. The other four sets are component-specific.
Each of the four component-specific sets of Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in pages include two types of pages:
Component-level pages—These allow you to monitor and manage the entire component, possibly including multiple servers running on multiple hosts.
Server-level pages—Server-level pages provide access to individual servers.
Table 5-1 lists the pages in Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in.

To reach the Identity Management Suite home page from Grid Control, click the Targets tab, then click the Identity Management subtab.
From the Identity Management Suite home page, you can go to the Identity Management Suite Infrastructure, Performance, Deployments, and Topology pages by clicking the headings at the same level as Home.
From the Identity Management Suite Home page, you can go to the home page for a component by clicking the component name in the Components section of the page. If any alerts are present, you can go to the Identity Management Suite Alert Summary page by clicking a number in the Suite Alerts Summary section.
From each of the component home pages, you can go to other pages for that component by clicking the headings at the same level as Home. If any alerts are present, you can go to the Alert Summary page for that component by clicking a number in the Alerts Summary section.
From each of the component home pages, you can go to server pages for that component by clicking a server name in the Servers section of the page.
From each of the server home pages, you can go to other pages for that server by clicking the headings at the same level as Home. From a Directory Server Home page, you can go to the Directory Server Configuration Set page by clicking Configuration Set in the LDAP Server Instances section. You can also go to the Configuration Sets of LDAP Replication Server page by clicking Configuration Set in the Replication Server Instance section.
Note: The Internet Directory Servers section on each of the Internet Directory Component pages lists the name of the database associated with the directory server. Clicking the name enables you to drill down to the database home page. If the database is listed as Unavailable, you can make it available by restarting the Oracle Internet Directory server instance. Alternatively, you can temporarily launch another instance of Oracle Internet Directory, then shut it down. |
Note: In some high availability configurations, Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in displays identical information for all the hosts that share a single metadata repository. This behavior might change in a future release. |
You can start, stop, or restart an Oracle Internet Directory server target from the Internet Directory Component Home, Performance, or Topology page. To do so, follow these steps:
In the Internet Directory Servers section of the page, select the target by clicking the corresponding box in the Select column.
Click Start, Stop, or Restart, depending on the operation you want to perform.
If you are performing a Stop or Restart operation, you will see a Confirmation page. Click Yes.
If you have not set preferred credentials, you will be presented with a Credentials page. Enter your Oracle Application Server administrator name and password and click Continue.
You will see a Processing page while the operation is in progress. Finally, you will see a Results page. If the operation did not succeed, the Results page will explain why.
You can start, stop, or restart a Delegated Administration Server from the Delegated Administration Services Component Home, Performance, or Topology page. To do so, follow these steps:
In the Delegated Administration Servers section of the page, select the target by clicking the corresponding box in the Select column.
Click Start, Stop, or Restart, depending on the operation you want to perform.
If you are performing a Stop or Restart operation, you will see a Confirmation page. Click Yes.
If you have not set preferred credentials, you will be presented with a Credentials page. Enter your operating system user name and password and click Continue.
You will see a Processing page while the operation is in progress. Finally, you will see a Results page. If the operation did not succeed, the Results page will explain why.
Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in enables you to monitor several aspects of your Identity Management Suite.
This section contains the following topics:
Many pages in Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in provide information about the status of components, servers, or instances within a server. Suite level pages lists the status of all components, and Component level pages list the status of a single component. The status of a component is listed as up if any server of that component is up. The Server level pages list the status of the server. The status of a server is listed as up if any instance running on that server is up. Other pages list the status of various targets related to Identity Management. In some cases, you can display more detailed information by clicking a field or icon.
Some pages in Identity Management Grid Control plug-in display metrics or provide information about alerts. Metrics are units of measurement used to assess the health of your system. Each component has a predefined set of metrics. Some of these metrics in turn have thresholds associated with them. Thresholds are boundary values against which monitored metric values are compared. Once a threshold is reached, an alert is generated. For more information about metrics and alerts, see Oracle Enterprise Manager Concepts.
Topology pages provide a graphical representation of the components, component server targets, associated databases, and hosts in an Identity Management suite, using the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Topology Viewer. The topology viewer shows all dependent components and subservices, represented as icons, as well as the relationships between them, represented as links. You must use Internet Explorer to display the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Topology Viewer.
The Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in comes with some preconfigured reports for Oracle Internet Directory and Oracle Application Server Single Sign-On. To access them, click the Reports link under Related Links from an Oracle Internet Directory or Oracle Application Server Single Sign-On component page or server page.
Versions of Oracle Internet Directory prior to 10g (10.1.4.0.1) do not support all the features of the Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in. You can use the Identity Management Grid Control Plug-in with a 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) or earlier version of Oracle Internet Directory, but certain links will not resolve properly, including:
