This figure shows nodes on two tiers:

• In the first tier, you have two active nodes running OracleAS Single Sign-On and Oracle Delegated Administration Services. These nodes have local storage, on which you install the Oracle home for these components.

  A load balancer directs requests to these two nodes.

• In the second tier, you have an active node and a passive node. The active node runs OracleAS Metadata Repository, Oracle Internet Directory, and Oracle Directory Integration Platform.

  There are two shared disks. One shared disk contains the Oracle home for an existing database. You install the OracleAS Metadata Repository in this database.

  The other shared disk contains the Oracle home for Oracle Identity Management. In this case, the Oracle Identity Management components that you install are Oracle Internet Directory and Oracle Directory Integration Platform.

  During normal runtime, node 1 has access to both shared disks, is associated with the virtual hostname and IP address, and runs the processes. If node 1 fails, node 2 becomes the active node.
