Adding Product Attributes to Function Spaces, Categories, and Sleeping Rooms

Attributes can be used with Hospitality products to handle price adjustments. For example, it may be appropriate to charge cheaper rates for sleeping rooms that have a street view rather than an ocean view.

Attributes must be defined, added to a class, released for version control, and then added to the appropriate products.

This task is a step in Managing Function Spaces, Sleeping Rooms, and Categories as Products.

To define product attributes

  1. Navigate to the Administration - Product screen > Attribute Definitions list.
  2. Create a new attribute record and select the Locked Flag check box.
  3. In the Versions applet, drill down on the Version field.
  4. Choose an option from the Domain Type drop-down list.

Select Free Form if you want to allow users to enter their own values for the attribute. Select Enumerated if you want to define a list of values from which the users must choose when using the attribute.

To define a list of values for the attribute:

    1. In the Attributes Values list, click the New button.
    2. In the Value field, add the name for the value. For example, the view attribute could have Street View, Ocean View, or Gardens View as possible values.
    3. In the Sequence field, enter the order in which the value should appear in the list. For example, enter 1 to display the value at the top of the list.
  5. Go back to the Attribute Definitions list, query for the new record and click the Release button.
  6. Click the Product Classes tab to navigate to that view.
  7. Create a new class record and select the Locked Flag check box.
  8. In the Versions applet, drill down on the Version field.
  9. Add the new attribute to the class.

If you have defined a list of values for the attribute, you will see that the values you entered appear in the Default Value drop-down list and in the sequence that you specified.

  10. Go back to the Product Classes list, query for the new record and click the Release button again.

You can now add the class and its related attributes to a product.

To add an attribute to a product

  1. Navigate to the Administration - Product screen > Product Definitions list.
  2. Query for a product to which you want to add the attribute.
  3. Select the Locked Flag check box.
  4. In the Product Class field, click the select button and choose the product class to which the attribute belongs.
  5. Click the Release button.

The product is now associated with the product class and inherits all the class attributes.
