About New Siebel Upgrade Features and Requirements

Upgrades from: All Siebel releases.

Environments: Development, production test, production.

Databases: All databases.

The following new upgrade features are introduced at Siebel 7.7:

  • Incorporate Custom Layouts (ICL). This feature enables you to preserve the UI look and feel of your currently installed release during the repository merge, reducing the workload required to reconfigure customizations after the upgrade. ICL is available for Siebel 7.x upgrades only; however, it is included in Siebel 7.7.2 and later. For more information, see About the Siebel Incorporate Custom Layout (ICL) Upgrade Option.
  • Log Parsing Utility. The log parsing utility analyzes many of the logs generated during the upgrade and provides a report that lists problems. For more information, see Summarizing Siebel Log Files Using the Logparse Utility.
  • Production Upgrade Tuner. This utility analyzes the SQL commands used to upgrade the production test environment. It then helps you eliminate unneeded SQL commands and perform other operations intended to improve the performance of the production environment upgrade. For more information, see About Tuning Siebel Production Upgrade Files.
  • Upgrading the Production Database. In the production test environment, you must be able to define an ODBC connection to the Siebel Database in the production environment to do the production upgrade. If you cannot do this, contact Oracle's Siebel Technical Support. For more information, see About the Siebel Database Upgrade Process.
