Setting Up the Preventive Maintenance Engine


Follow these procedures to set up the Preventive Maintenance Engine.

To set asynchronous operation of the Preventive Maintenance Engine

  1. From the application-level menu, choose View > User Preferences.
  2. From the Show drop-down list, select Service.
  3. In the Asynchronous Processing Of section, select Preventive Maintenance.

To set parameters for the Preventive Maintenance Engine

  1. Insert or edit a component request for the Preventive Maintenance Engine server component.
  2. Add or modify the server component parameters as needed.

To change system preferences for the Preventative Maintenance Engine

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Application Administration > System Preferences.
  2. Locate the name of the system preference (System Preference Name column).
  3. For the names of applicable system preferences, see Table 126.

  4. Type in a new value for System Preference Value.
  5. To register changes to system preferences, restart the Field Service server.
  6. For information on how to restart servers, see Siebel Server Administration Guide.

To define preventive maintenance plans

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Preventive Maintenance.
  2. The Plans view appears.

  3. Add a new preventive maintenance plan record.
  4. Enter the name for a plan.
  5. Enter values for other fields, as needed.

To define triggers for a selected PM plan

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Preventive Maintenance.
  2. The Plans view appears.

  3. Select a preventive maintenance plan.
  4. Click the Triggers view tab.
  5. Create a new trigger record in any applicable subviews (Time Interval, Usage, Threshold, and Event).
  6. Enter values for the fields, as needed.
  7. NOTE:  PM plans can have any number of triggers of any type (Time Interval, Usage, Threshold, and Event).

To associate a PM plan with an agreement

  1. Navigate to the Agreements screen.
  2. Select an agreement.
  3. Click the Entitlements view tab.
  4. Select an entitlement.
  5. Click the Preventive Maintenance subview tab.
  6. In the Preventive Maintenance subview's frame, make sure that PM Plans is selected in the drop-down list.
  7. In the Preventive Maintenance list, create a new record and associate a PM plan.

To associate assets with PM plans

  1. Navigate to the Assets screen.
  2. Select an asset.
  3. Click the Preventive Maintenance view tab.
  4. In the Preventive Maintenance view's Show drop-down list, select Plans.
  5. In the Preventive Maintenance list, create a new record and associate a PM plan.

To associate activity templates with a PM plan

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Preventive Maintenance.
  2. The Plans view appears.

  3. Select a preventive maintenance plan.
  4. Click the Actions view tab.
  5. In the Activity Templates list, create a new record and associate an activity template.

Creating Service Request Templates for Preventive Maintenance

Service Request Templates provide one or more activity templates to carry out preventive maintenance.

To create a service request template for preventive maintenance

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Service Administration > Service Request Templates.
  2. Add a new service request template record.
  3. Enter values for the fields, as needed.
  4. Click the Service Request Template Activities view tab.
  5. Add activity templates as needed for preventive maintenance.
