Siebel Analytics Server Administration Guide >
Creating and Administering the Physical Layer in a Repository
Before you create the Physical layer of a repository, you need to create a repository file. For more information, see Setting Up a Siebel Analytics Server Repository.
The Physical layer of the Administration Tool defines the data sources to which the Siebel Analytics Server submits queries and the relationships between physical databases and other data sources that are used to process multiple data source queries.
NOTE: If your organization has licensed the Siebel Analytics Platform Server Extended product or the Siebel Analytics Server Stand-Alone product, you are authorized to add databases or connection pools to the physical layer. If your organization has licensed a different product, you can only use the databases or connection pools that are provided with the product
The first step in creating the Physical layer is to create the schema. The method that you use to create the create the schema depends on your data source type. You can create the Physical layer manually (for a multidimensional data source) or import the schema (all other supported data sources).
- Importing the physical schema to create the Physical layer. You can import the physical schema for supported data source types (other than multidimensional). You can import schemas or portions of schemas from existing data sources.
- Manually creating the Physical layer for a multidimensional data source data source. When you want to connect to a multidimensional data source (cube structure), you need to manually create each element of the Physical layer. You cannot import these schemas at this time.
This section provides instructions for using the Administration Tool to create the Physical layer of a repository. After creating all of the elements of the Physical layer, you can drag tables or columns in the Physical layer to the Business Model and Mapping layer.
