Forward messages to the domain log

To specify the messages that a server forwards to the domain log:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the left pane of the Console, expand Environment and select Servers.
  3. In the Servers table, click the name of the server instance whose logging you want to configure.
  4. Select Logging > General, and click Advanced at the bottom of the page.
  5. Under Message Destinations, in the Domain Log Broadcaster: Severity Level list box, select a severity level.

Only messages of the selected severity or higher are forwarded to the domain log. You cannot forward DEBUG messages to the domain log. For information about message severity, see Message Severity.

  6. In the Filter list box, select a filter to qualify log events being sent to the domain log.

For more information, see Create log filters.

  7. In the Buffer Size box, specify the size of the batches that will be broadcasted to the domain log. A lower value causes more RMI calls to be made, as the buffer will be broadcasted more frequently. For performance reasons, it is recommended that you set this value to 10 or higher in production mode.
  8. Click Save.
  9. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).
