Diagnostics: Context

Column Display     Related Tasks     Related Topics

Use this page to enable or disable diagnostic context for a server.

Diagnostic context provides unique context IDs for identifying requests that flow through the system. When diagnostic context is enabled for a server instance (and instrumentation is not enabled), a unique context ID for the request is returned when requested by the debug system or by an application.

If instrumentation is configured and enabled for a server instance, diagnostic context is enabled by default, so selecting Enable or Disable on this Console page will have no effect. For more information, see "Configure Instrumentation for a Diagnostic Module." (Follow the link under Related Tasks, below.)

Note: If you configure instrumentation, you can further configure the dye vector in the DyeInjection monitor to identify certain attributes of requests, for example originating users and originating addresses. You can then configure dye masks in other diagnostic monitors to control which requests are handled by those monitors. For more information, see "Configuring the DyeInjection Monitor to Manage Diagnostic Contexts" in Configuring and Using the WebLogic Diagnostic Framework. (Follow the link under Related Topics, below.)
