Create trap destinations

Before you begin

A trap destination contains the information that the WebLogic SNMP agent needs to send traps to an SNMP manager. Create one trap destination for each SNMP manager that you want to receive traps from the WebLogic SNMP agent.

To create a trap destination:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the Administration Console, expand Diagnostics > SNMP Agent and select Trap Destinations.
  3. On the SNMP Trap Destinations page, click New.

Note: Once you create a trap destination, you cannot rename it. Instead, you must delete it and create another one that uses the new name.

  4. On the Create an SNMP Trap Destination page, enter a name for the trap destination, then click Finish.
  5. On the SNMP Trap Destinations page, click the new trap destination.
  6. On the SNMP Trap Destinations: Configuration page:
    1. In Community, enter the password (community name) that the SNMP manager requires for all incoming requests.
    2. In Host, enter the DNS name or IP address of the computer on which the SNMP manager is running.
    3. In Port, enter the port on which the SNMP manager is listening.

For more information about these fields, refer to Configuration Options.

  7. Click Save.
  8. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).

After you finish

You do not need to restart the Administration Server after creating and initially configuring a trap destination. However, if you modify an existing trap destination, you must restart the Administration Server.
