Upgrading a Workflow Process

This topic describes some information about upgrading Siebel Workflow from an earlier version. Siebel Database Upgrade Guide is the primary source for upgrade information. For important upgrade information about workflow processes, such as Workflow Premerge, Repository Merge, Workflow Postmerge, and Logging, see Siebel Database Upgrade Guide.

Upgrading the Runtime and Repository Schema

If Oracle changes the Siebel Workflow tables in the repository or the run-time schema, or if Oracle adds new columns to the repository or run-time schema, then you must add these new columns to the Siebel database.

Oracle does not change workflow processes that exist in the run-time deployment table during an upgrade. To reactivate workflow processes after the merge finishes, you can use the Workflow Deployment view in the Siebel client.

For more information, see Siebel Database Upgrade Guide.

Merging Workflow Processes

Note the following:

  • If you upgrade to Siebel CRM version 7.7, then Siebel CRM moves workflow processes from the run-time tables to the repository tables. If you upgrade to version 8.0 from version 7.7 or from version 7.8, then Siebel CRM merges all workflow processes to the version 8.0 repository during the repository merge process.
  • If you upgrade to Siebel CRM version 8.0 directly from a version that occurs prior to version 7.7, then Siebel CRM copies all workflow processes to the version 8.0 repository. You must manually merge your custom workflow processes with the new 8.0 seed workflow processes.

Make sure you review your workflow customizations after the repository merge process finishes. For more information, see Examining Seed Workflow Processes. For information about how Siebel CRM does a merge, see Siebel Database Upgrade Guide.

Mode Requirements for an Upgraded Workflow Process

If you modify a 7.0 flow workflow process that you upgraded to version 7.7 or later, then the mode for the workflow process can remain the same.
