Defining a Task Applet

This topic describes how to define a task applet. The following objects must exist before you define a task applet:

  • The object definition of the task UI
  • The Transient Business Component (TBC) with which the applet interacts

Use of a task applet in a task UI is optional. If your task does not involve transient data, then you can use a standard applet instead. For more information, see Task Applet.

If your task UI does require a task applet, then you can define the task applet before you define the task view. For more information, see Process of Defining a Task View.

To define a task applet

  1. In Siebel Tools, from the application level menu, choose the File menu, then the New Object menu item.
  2. In the New Object Wizards dialog box, click the Task tab.
  3. Choose either the Task Form Applet icon or the Task List Applet icon, then click OK.
  4. Define properties in the General dialog box, using values in the following table.
    Property
    Description

    Project

Choose a project that is associated with this applet.

    Name

Enter the name that is used to reference the applet when laying out a view. The name cannot be the same as the name of an existing applet.

    Display Title

(Optional) Enter the display title that is displayed to the end user in the Siebel client. If no title is desired, then you can leave Display Title empty.

    Task

Choose the task UI with which this applet is associated. If no task is chosen, then the applet can be reused for multiple tasks. If the applet is associated with a task, then the applet can only be used with that task.

    Upgrade Behavior

    Choose an appropriate upgrade behavior.

    Transient Business Component

Choose the Transient Business Component (TBC) that stores data for the applet.

  5. Click Next.
  6. In the Web Layout-Fields dialog box, choose fields from the TBC that appear in the layout.

To choose a field, click it in the Available Fields window, then click the arrow that points toward the Selected Fields window. To choose multiple fields, hold down the SHIFT key.

  7. Click Next.

The Finish dialog box displays. This dialog box displays properties that are used to define the new task applet. You can click Back in order to return to an earlier dialog and make changes, if necessary.

  8. Click Finish to generate the task applet.

Siebel Tools generates the task applet, then the Web Template Layout Editor opens.

  9. Adjust layout of the applet and modify properties for the controls, as necessary.
