About Siebel Open UI

You can optionally deploy Siebel Business Applications using Siebel Open UI as an alternative to using the existing high-interactivity client and standard-interactivity client.

NOTE:  The functionality described in this topic requires that you install Siebel CRM Release 8.1.1.9 or later, or 8.2.2.2 or later. For information, see the applicable Siebel Maintenance Release Guide on My Oracle Support.

From a security perspective, there are a number of important differences in the way in which Siebel Open UI functions compared with the existing Siebel high-interactivity and standard-interactivity user interface modes:

  • Siebel Business Applications that use the existing user interface modes run only in Internet Explorer. In contrast, Siebel Open UI uses an open architecture that allows you to run Siebel Business Applications on any Web browser that is compliant with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards. Siebel Open UI also supports a number of operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS, or Linux.

The Siebel Open UI client is compatible with any security features supported by the Web browser on which it runs.

  • Siebel Open UI uses only CSS, HTML, and JavaScript for presentation rendering and to control client-side behavior.

Eliminating the use of third-party plug-ins, such as ActiveX controls, makes Siebel Business Applications more secure.

For information on enabling Siebel Open UI, see Siebel Installation Guide for the operating system you are using. For information about deploying Siebel Business Applications with Siebel Open UI, see Configuring Siebel Open UI.

NOTE:  The procedures in this guide assume that you do not use left-hand navigation. However, you can set up left-hand navigation if you choose. For information about implementing left-hand navigation, see Siebel Fundamentals for Siebel Open UI.
