By default, the Siebel installers automatically install Siebel Business Applications software in directories with unique names that will not conflict with other Siebel modules that you install on the same computer. To install another instance of the same version of a module on a single computer (where applicable), specify a custom installation path.
NOTE: In this context, same version refers to all of the releases sharing the same first two digits, such as 8.1.1 and 22.214.171.124 or 8.2.2 and 126.96.36.199 (where Fix Pack releases are available), and so on.
All Siebel Enterprise Server components that you install on the same computer are installed into the same root directory (such as
NOTE: If you have installed a Siebel Fix Pack release for a Siebel Enterprise Server installation, and you require additional Siebel Enterprise Server components (for example, Siebel Gateway Name Server is already installed and you want to install a Siebel Server), then it is recommended that you install the additional modules in a different directory or on a different computer, and then install the Fix Pack. (Install subsequent Fix Packs and other maintenance releases for all of the applicable installed modules.) Use naming conventions for your installation directories that reflect the component and the version being installed, such as 81 or 82 for the current version. The default installation directories already reference version 8.1 or 8.2 in this way.
