JAXR API Overview

The Java^TM API for XML Registries (JAXR) provides a uniform and standard API for accessing different kinds of XML Registries. XML registries are an enabling infrastructure for building, deployment and discovery of web services.

Currently there are several overlapping specifications for XML registries. Examples include ebXML, ISO 11179, OASIS, eCo Framework, and the Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) project. The JAXR API enables programmers to use a single, easy-to-use abstraction API to access a variety of XML registries. Simplicity and ease of use are facilitated within the JAXR API by a unified JAXR information model, which describes content and metadata within XML registries.

The current version of the JAXR specification includes detailed bindings between the JAXR information model and both the ebXML registry and the UDDI registry specifications.
