Oracle Multimedia DICOM Java API enables users to write Java applications using the Oracle Multimedia object designed to store Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) data. Oracle Multimedia DICOM Java API is a component of Oracle Multimedia, a feature designed to manage multimedia content within Oracle Database.

Oracle Multimedia enables Oracle Database to store, manage, and retrieve media data in an integrated fashion with other enterprise information. Oracle Multimedia DICOM extends Oracle Database reliability, availability, and data management to DICOM content including single-frame and multiframe images, waveforms, video segments, and structured reports. Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) is the dominant standard for radiology imaging and communication. Oracle Multimedia provides support and native understanding for this medical standard.

Note
In Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1), the name Oracle interMedia was changed to Oracle Multimedia. The feature remains the same, only the name has changed. References to Oracle interMedia were replaced with Oracle Multimedia, however some references to Oracle interMedia or interMedia may still appear in graphical user interfaces, code examples, and related documents in the Documentation Library for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2).

The class in the following table represents an instance of the Oracle Multimedia ORDDicom database object type in a Java application.
