Creating Resources, Roles and Groups

This chapter covers the following topics:

Define Resource Groups (Compensation Groups)

Compensation Groups are defined in Resource Manager. The Compensation Manager and Compensation Analyst can access Resource Manager by using the Resource Management section of their menus. For detailed information, refer to appropriate sections of the Oracle Trading Community Architecture Administration Guide.

Defining Roles

In Oracle Incentive Compensation, compensation plans are assigned to roles, and resources are assigned a role. A Role may encompass one or more job descriptions and job titles. Within the role type used for Oracle Incentive Compensation, roles are assigned to resources, resource groups and resource teams. Oracle Resource Manager is delivered with predefined roles for all E-Business Suite modules, including Oracle Incentive Compensation.

Roles in Oracle Incentive Compensation must be the Sales Compensation type in order to be assigned compensation plans and pay groups. The Sales Compensation usage type must be used when creating user-defined roles to be used in Oracle Incentive Compensation. The Compensation Manager and Compensation Analyst can define roles in Resource Manager by using the Resource Management section of their menus. Before a resource can be assigned a role, the resource must be given a Sales Rep Record. See the Managing Roles and Role Types chapter in the Oracle Trading Community Architecture Administration Guide for the steps for this procedure.

Sales Compensation Payment Analyst Role Type

Use the Sales Compensation Payment Analyst role type whenever you define an analyst in Resource Manager for use in Oracle Incentive Compensation.

Users that belong to groups with a usage of Sales Compensation Payment Analyst should be assigned only to a Sales Compensation Payment Analyst role, and they should not be given salesrep numbers. A user cannot be assigned to both a Sales Compensation Payment Analyst role and to a Sales Compensation role.

If you have analysts that were defined prior to this release that use a Sales Compensation role, remove that role and group member role and assign the Sales Compensation Payment Analyst role.

Defining Resources

Resources are created in or imported into Resource Manager. For Oracle Incentive Compensation, the resource must have a Sales Rep record to be assigned to a compensation plan. This record is located on the Receivables tab in Resource Manager or on the Resource tab within the 360 degree view of the resource in Oracle Incentive Compensation. Be sure to enter a Start Date in the Date Active field and Quota Sales Credit as the Sales Credit Type when creating the Sales Rep record.

For details, refer to appropriate sections of the Oracle Trading Community Architecture Administration Guide.

Setting Up Payees

You can create a Payee if you want to assign payment to someone other than the resource receiving the sales credit. For example, use payee assignment if a credit receiver leaves the company and a new resource takes over the account.

Navigation

Compensation Manager > Resource Manager > Resources

  1. Select the resource you wish to have as a payee in Resource Manager.

  2. Assign the Payee role (with type Sales Compensation) to the payee/resource in Resource Manager. Before being assigned the Payee role, the resource must have a Sales Rep Record as well in Resource Manager.

  3. Assign a pay group to the payee in Oracle Incentive Compensation.

  4. Be sure that the plan element has the Paid Through Third Party option set to Yes.

  5. In the Plan Setup for the resource in the 360 degree view of the resource, select the plan element and assign the Payee using the LOV in the Payee region. The start and end dates of the Payee assignment must fall within the plan element dates as well as the Pay Group date assignment for the Payee.

Setting Up Resources for Team Compensation

You can use Resource Manager to define resource teams that are recognized by Oracle Incentive Compensation when calculating compensation amounts for members of a team.

Transactions are typically associated with a single resource but may need to be allocated to every resource within a team. If the resource on the transaction is a member of a team, then Oracle Incentive Compensation automatically calculates compensation for every member of the team. For example, assume Steve is a member of a team consisting of Steve, John, and Bill. A transaction for $100 is collected into Oracle Incentive Compensation. Steve is entitled to 100% credit for this transaction, but because he is also a member of a team, Oracle Incentive Compensation automatically gives 100% credit to John and Bill as well. As part of the team setup, the plan element used to calculate the team commission must have the Compensation Indirect Credit option set to All.

However, even though team members all receive credit for the transaction, the sales credit rolls up a sales hierarchy only on the original transaction. For example, if Steve, John, and Bill all report to Bob, Bob receives only $100 sales credit (from Steve). If Steve reports to Bob but John and Bill report to Sally, only Bob receives rollup sales credit. Even if Steve, John, and Bill each have different managers, only Bob receives the rollup sales credit.

Refer to the Oracle CRM Application Foundation Implementation Guide for the specific steps necessary for creating a team and adding resources to it.
