This chapter covers the following topics:
At times, for specific reasons, marketers need to plan campaign activities whose execution will repeat over a period of time. The following examples demonstrate the need for repeating activities:
A repeating Up Sell activity may need to run every quarter over the next two years to target new customers who buy or upgrade to Oracle 10G.
A company may need to send its newsletter to its customers on the 1st of every month until subscriptions last.
A company may need to send e-mail reminders for the renewal of subscription to newsletters for all the customers whose subscription is ending two months from today.
Activities may repeat endlessly, such as in the send newsletter example, or may end after a specified time period, as in the Up Sell 10G example above. Activities may target the same target group or target new segment members only. You need to define the time range, the target audience, and the repeating frequency when you set up repeating campaign activities. For a sample business user flow, see Sending Monthly Newsletters to a Set of Customers.
The activity owner can receive a workflow notification each time a repeating activity is launched by selecting Notify on Activation in the Additional Information tab in Activity Details.
The Repeating Activity Analysis Report, available from the Reports Dashboard, provides details of target groups and fatigue rules applications for each iteration of the activity. You can drill down to view channel-based information. See Activity Operational Reports.
