1. What's New

In Release 12.1.3.9, Oracle Advanced Planning Command Center has added or changed the following features since its last release. For a complete list of new features within Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3, refer to Document 561580.1, Release Content Document.

The current Supply Chain Analyst (SCA) dashboard in APCC has been enhanced with new measures and related reports to support Inventory Analysis workflows. The following new reports are included in a new tab in the SCA dashboard.

Some of the new measures introduced as part of this include the following:

Enhanced Sales and Operations Planning Dashboard

The Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) dashboard is enhanced to include the following new measures:

  • Operating Plan
  • Financial Forecast

In addition, the existing reports have been updated with new usability enhancements and new navigations to more drill-down reports. Also, a new tab called Financial Review has been added with the following reports:

This new Financial Review page enables planners and executives to answer questions like:

  • How are product categories performing financially?
  • What has changed financially since last fiscal quarter/month?
  • How/Where/Why has profitability changed?
  • Is there any need to revise financial forecast?
Supply Chain Risk Management Dashboard

The Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) dashboard is a new dashboard and enables users to review and compare key metrics in a single interface, providing true Enterprise Planning capabilities to the SCRM discipline.

It enables executives and planners to answer questions like:

  • What is the impact to my margins if there is a sudden drop in demand?
  • When do I return to profitability?
  • What is the cost difference between sourcing strategies in the event of the demand drop?
  • What impact does increased lead times have on my inventory strategy?
  • What is the impact of off-shoring to my Total Delivered Cost?
  • What is the impact of off-shoring to my Margins?

The following new measures are introduced as part of this feature:

  • Facility Startup/Shutdown Costs
  • Fixed Costs
  • Count of Sources
  • Carrying Cost without Postponement
  • Safety Stock without Postponement
  • Inventory Budget
  • Product Miles

The dashboard contains four different tabs: Executive Review, Inventory Analysis, Supply Chain Sourcing and Glossary.

Revenue Gap Analysis

This feature enables Supply Chain Analysts and Sales and Operations Planners to do additional reporting and analysis to close gaps between the current shipment rate and the revenue targets established as part of the sales and operations plan. This is most critical as the end of a period or quarter approaches and gaps remain.

The Supply Chain Analyst (SCA) dashboard has been enhanced to add the following reports in the Scenario analysis tab:

  • Backlog Analysis - Units & Value
  • Bookings Performance - Units & Value
  • Current Shipment Plan
  • Demand and Supply Summary
  • Demand Utilization - Units & Value
  • Demand Utilization Split - Baseline Plan
  • Left to Book - By Quarter
  • Sales Order Analysis - Units & Value
  • Shipment Performance - Units & Value
  • Supply Utilization - Units & Value

The Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) dashboard has also been enhanced to add/modify the following reports:

  • Current Shipment Plan
  • Supply Summary
Collaboration Workspaces for Unstructured Collaboration

This feature lets users to quickly band into ad-hoc, virtual groups for specific planning tasks and allows those groups to share structured and unstructured content. Each group has access to a single, flexible portal-like user interface that brings together components of various planning applications and a variety of collaboration tools.

These collaborative group spaces support customized Worklists, Group Calendars, Documents, Discussions, Tags, Issues and Notes. In addition, the group space home page has navigation links to applications such as Rapid Planning and Sales and Operations Planning, and to APCC dashboards.

Each group space is linked to a Scenario created in Advanced Planning Command Center and users can choose to auto-create a group space when a scenario is created.

Enhanced Exceptions Analysis

The Supply Chain Analyst Dashboard has been enhanced to include additional measures and reports in support of improved exception analysis. Two new reports have been added as part of this feature:

  • Item Exceptions Summary
  • Resource Exceptions Summary

In addition to the above, the following reports have been enhanced with additional page/report filters:

  • Demand Exceptions Summary
  • Inventory Exceptions Summary
  • Alternate Exceptions Summary
  • Resource Exceptions Summary
  • Reschedules Exceptions Summary
  • Exception Summary by Category
  • Exception Summary by Organization
Integration with Rapid Planning

Oracle Advanced Planning Command Center now offers pre-built integration with Rapid Planning. Rapid Planning plans can be archived and published to Advanced Planning Command Center. These archived versions can then be viewed in all related reports and dashboards.

The Advanced Planning Command Center's Supply Chain Analyst dashboard supports drill-down directly into the Rapid Planning application.

All Rapid Planning simulation plans can be used in the Process Automation functionality to build process flows in Advanced Planning Command Center.

Material Plan User Interface In release 12.1.3.8, a new Material Plan user interface is available to perform mass updates on supply and demand records. The supply and demand records appear in a bucketed horizontal format, similar to the Horizontal Plan. Values in the Material Plan user interface can be edited and the aggregate values are updated as changes are made. Changes to the buckets values are allocated back to the planned orders and the firm status of the planned order is set.
Resource Plan User Interface In release 12.1.3.8, a new Resource Plan user interface is available to view and update available resource hours by day, week or by period. The new editable resource plan displays resources in a bucketed fashion including a set of total rows, including the option to display a set of total rows. The Resource Plan allows direct editing of bucketed values. The changes to the bucketed values will be allocated back to the resource's daily availability (see below for more information on allocation).
Orders User Interface In release 12.1.3.8, a new Orders user interface is available to easily release orders from APCC. The Orders user interface is used to identify the orders for release based on a variety of search criteria as well as edit select columns. In addition, the planner can choose to release orders from within the order user interface.
Launch Plan from APCC Dashboard In release 12.1.3.8, APCC now provides a new option, Launch Plan, to the existing set of ASCP Launch Plan parameters. When Launch Plan is selected, the system displays the Launch Plan dialog and allows the user to select the appropriate options and run the plan. Once the plan is run, select the Go button on the dashboard page filters to refresh the display.
Edit Item Simulation Set User Interface In release 12.1.3.8, APCC a new Item Simulation Set user interface is available to add or remove items from the simulation set, as well as override item attributes from APCC.
OBIEE 11g Upgrade

In release 12.1.3.8, APCC has been upgraded to work with OBIEE 11g.

Note: OBIEE 11.1.1.6.5 is a prerequisite for APCC.

Parallel Processing of Plan Archival During Plan Archival in Advanced Planning Command Center, there are several predecessor tasks that need to be completed before the complete plan is archived. In release 12.1.3.9, this enhancement provides considerable throughput improvement by allows parallel processing of archival process entities.
Configurable Time Levels During Plan Archival

Prior to 12.1.3.9, in APCC, many facts were processed during archival at day level. These included supplies, demands, exceptions, and resource facts. However, Advanced Planning Command Center users typically view information at higher levels of Period and Week. Hence there was a lot of redundant information being processed and stored in APCC.

Archival is now supported only at either Manufacturing Weeks or Periods. You can select the archival level.

Even when you select the Week level, the archival process still supports roll up of data into months (in the fiscal period hierarchy) by breaking down the weeks into smaller reporting units wherever there are month boundaries. The month totals are still be accurate and do not get skewed because of the time granularity selected during archival.

Turn Off Archival of Complex Measures

Some of the more complex measures involve intense computation during the APCC Extract, Transform, Load process. If you do not require these measures, you can now turn off these computations in release 12.1.3.9. These measures are as follows:

  1. Supplier Capacity Net Available - Cum
  2. Supplier Capacity Available
  3. Supplier Capacity Utilization %
  4. Count of Sources
  5. Count of Items Single Sourced
  6. Net Resource Availability - Cum
  7. Constrained Forecast - Cum (Qty and Value)
  8. Budget Shortfall (Qty and Value)

You can turn off the computation of these measures during archival in two ways:

  • Using new configuration user interface
  • Using profiles
Configurable Currency Conversions In release 12.1.3.9, whenever you do not need currency conversions from functional currency to reporting currency, APCC now supports a configuration option (available in the Configuration User Interface) that lets you convert based on time-phased rates based on the fact dates, use a single rate as of the plan start date, or skip the conversion completely.
Managing Inventory Optimization Plans from Advanced Planning Command Center

When determining stocking strategy, planners typically run a number of Inventory Optimization simulation plans, varying factors such as service levels, budgets, and capacity.

Oracle Inventory Optimization (IO) provides the ability to set up and run plans. Oracle Advanced Planning Command Center (APCC) provides extensive capabilities to evaluate and compare plan results.

In 12.1.3.9, these products provide a seamless process for defining multiple IO plans, modifying their inputs, comparing them, launching them, and evaluating their results from Advanced Planning Command Center. This process is enabled at two levels:

  • A Quick Simulation mode, where a planner can quickly change targets at a plan level and launch the plans
  • Detailed simulations, where a planner copies a base plan, modifies several inputs at various levels, and then launches some or all plans and evaluates them

With this enhancement, the planner can use APCC to control the setup, modification, launch, monitoring and review of multiple IO plans.

The EBS File Comparison Report provides a comprehensive comparison of file system artifacts between different Oracle E-Business Suite releases for important file types. As part of Oracle E-Business Suite upgrade planning, this report helps customers to get a clear idea of what is different in a new release (additions, removals and modifications for Oracle E-Business Suite delivered files). 3.6 Collaboration Workspaces for Unstructured Collaboration

Description

This feature lets users to quickly band into ad-hoc, virtual groups for specific planning tasks and allows those groups to share structured and unstructured content. Each group has access to a single, flexible portal-like user interface that brings together components of various planning applications and a variety of collaboration tools.

These collaborative group spaces support customized Worklists, Group Calendars, Documents, Discussions, Tags, Issues and Notes. In addition, the group space home page has navigation links to applications such as Rapid Planning and Sales and Operations Planning, and to APCC dashboards.

Each group space is linked to a Scenario created in Advanced Planning Command Center and users can choose to auto-create a group space when a scenario is created.

3.11 Orders User Interface

Description

In release 12.1.3.8, a new Orders user interface is available to easily release orders from APCC. The Orders user interface is used to identify the orders for release based on a variety of search criteria as well as edit select columns. In addition, the planner can choose to release orders from within the Orders user interface.

To update release status, select the desired orders and choose Mark for Release from the Action menu. To release the plan, select Release Plan from Action menu. This applies to all orders that are set to Mark for Release within the plan.

3.16 Configurable Time Levels During Plan Archival

Description

Prior to 12.1.3.9, in APCC, many facts were processed during archival at day level. These included supplies, demands, exceptions, and resource facts. However, Advanced Planning Command Center users typically view information at higher levels of Period and Week. Hence there was a lot of redundant information being processed and stored in APCC.

Archival is now supported only at either Manufacturing Weeks or Periods. You can select the archival level.

Even when you select the Week level, the archival process still supports roll up of data into months (in the fiscal period hierarchy) by breaking down the weeks into smaller reporting units wherever there are month boundaries. The month totals are still be accurate and do not get skewed because of the time granularity selected during archival.

3.17 Turn Off Archival of Complex Measures

Description

Some of the more complex measures involve intense computation during the APCC Extract, Transform, Load process. If you do not require these measures, you can now turn off these computations in release 12.1.3.9. These measures are as follows:

  1. Supplier Capacity Net Available - Cum
  2. Supplier Capacity Available
  3. Supplier Capacity Utilization %
  4. Count of Sources
  5. Count of Items Single Sourced
  6. Net Resource Availability - Cum
  7. Constrained Forecast - Cum (Qty and Value)
  8. Budget Shortfall (Qty and Value)

You can turn off the computation of these measures during archival in two ways:

  • Using new configuration user interface
  • Using profiles

3.18 Configurable Currency Conversions

Description

In release 12.1.3.9, whenever you do not need currency conversions from functional currency to reporting currency, APCC now supports a configuration option (available in the Advanced Planning Command Center Configuration user interface) that lets you convert based on time-phased rates based on the fact dates, use a single rate as of the plan start date, or skip the conversion completely.

Oracle Advanced Planning Command Center uses the common diagnostics features in Oracle E-Business Suite. This enables users and system administrators to use a centralized set of options to control logging level, as well as output destination. To run diagnostics, use the following profile options:

Setting the log level to Statement produces detail logging of code execution. To reduce the size of the output and make it more manageable, you can use apcc% as a module to restrict messages to those coming from Oracle Advanced Planning Command Center code.

The preceding profile options can be turned on at the user, function, responsibility, or site level. It is preferable, however, to set profiles at the user level to restrict the overhead they add to the system. If issues are experienced, logging profiles should be set at the user level experiencing the issue. For authorization servlet-related issues, you must set the diagnostics profile at the user level to ANONYMOUS.

To diagnose user interface issues, you can use the filter iby%,fnd.framework%,jbo% and set the diagnostics go-to screen by clicking the Diagnostics Global button. To enable this functionality, you must set the following profile option:

The FND: Diagnostics profile option controls whether the Diagnostics button is rendered. It also controls the display of the About this Page link.

For system issues, such as exceptions, timeouts, or unexpected behavior, you can turn on logging, based on where you are experiencing the issues, as follows:
