Setting Up Global Options

This chapter covers the following topics:

Setting Up System Logging

This section discusses how to configure log files to capture scheduling information, performance statistics, and any validation warnings that may occur during a schedule solve.

Configuring Log Files

To configure logging options:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.

  2. Select the Logging tab.

  3. To configure log files, use the fields below as necessary:

Options - Logging Tab Field Description
Enable logging Select this option if you want to log system messages. If you do not select this option, no logging occurs.
Log manual scheduling Select this option to log information on manual scheduling tasks.
Log performance statistics Select this option to capture application performance statistics in the log file. Timing for loading, saving, and duplicating schedules are captured.
Log warnings Select this option to record warnings to the log file.
Log information Select this option to have additional solver information recorded to the log. When selected, use the Maximum detail level list to define the information level recorded to the log file.
Show validation warnings Select this option to have the system display validation warnings that occur during the solve process.
Append to log file Select this option to append log information to the log file each time that the system runs. Use this option to create a single log file that can be reviewed for all solve processes performed for the schedule.
Overwrite log file Select this option to have the log file overwritten each time that the system runs. To keep old log records, save the log file with a different name each time that you start the system.
Log file Specify a location to store the log file.
Maximum file size (KB) Specify a file size or accept the default value of 1000 KB.
Truncate file at (%) Specify the percentage of the log file that the system omits when the log file reaches the size in the Maximum file size field.
Clear Log (button) Select this option to clear all information from the log file. New information will be recorded to the log file when the next solve is performed.
  4. Click OK.

Setting Up Diagrams and Toolbar Layouts

This section discusses how to configure the appearance of operation, routing and visit diagrams and display toolbars on multiple rows.

Configuring Diagram and Toolbar Layout

Use the Options - Layout tab to define diagram and toolbar layout.

To define diagram and toolbar layout:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.

  2. Select the Layout tab.

  3. To define diagram and toolbar layout, use the fields below as necessary:

Options - Layout Tab Field Description
Top to bottom Select this option to display operations and routings vertically beginning at the top of the screen.
Left to right Select this option to display operations and routings horizontally beginning at the left of the screen.
Bottom to top Select this option to display operations vertically beginning at the bottom of the screen.
Right to left Select this option to display operations horizontally beginning at the right of the screen.
Use snake layout Select this option to display a routing diagram that reads from left to right, and then from right to left on the next row. This option makes long routings easier to view on the screen or in printed form.
Zoom to fit larger diagrams Select this option to display adjust the zoom options to view diagrams.
Arrange toolbars on multiple rows Select this options to display toolbars on multiple rows. This feature can make it easier to locate your toolbar buttons.
Show visits in DAG layout Select this option to display visits in Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) layout. This is a start-to-end representation of the visit. The routing diagrams use this layout. Most visits should look best with this option since they are similar to large routings in nature.
Show visits in radial layout Select this option to display visits in radial layout. operation diagrams use this type of layout.
  4. Click OK.

Specifying Supporting Documents

This section discusses how to define a document directory to store supporting documents for various elements in your supply chain. This location is referred to as the Documents base folder.

Defining the Documents Base Folder

To define the documents base folder:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.

  2. Select the Documents tab.

  3. Define the following as necessary:

Options - Documents Tab Field Description
Documents base folder Specify the default directory for documents, or browse your system and select a document location.
  4. Click OK.

Defining Global Settings

Use the Options - Global Settings tab to define settings used throughout the Production Scheduling application.

Handling Firm Dates

Production Scheduling takes liberties to move firm work orders to respect constraints. For example, a firm operation could be moved due to the following conditions:

By default, Production Scheduling provides additional flexibility to maintain the “firm” schedule prior to the end of the fixed production timefence and ignore these violations. Before the fixed production timefence, capacity, materials and precedence constraints will be treated as "relaxed". Calendar constraints will still be respected.

The Respect Firm Dates in Timefence option in the Options – Global Setting tab is selected by default to enable this improved treatment of firm work orders.

Defining Global Settings

To define global settings:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.

  2. Select the Global Settings tab.

  3. Define the following as necessary:

Options - Global Settings Tab Field Description
Maximum history states Enter a number that sets the maximum number of history states retained when using the Undo/Redo feature.
Number of rows in bubble help Enter the maximum number of rows you want displayed from the Notes field for bubble help in the scheduled views and editors. Notes are not included in the bubble help when this value is set to zero (0).
Allow Drag and Drop in Gantt Views Select to indicate that manual scheduling, such as cut and paste operations, in the Schedule Editor may be performed by dragging selected scheduled operations to their new location. Valid paste locations are highlighted once the dragging operation are started.
Show upstream related work orders in Production Pegging View Select option to display upstream work orders from Production Pegging view.
Visualize visit operation slack in Gantt Views Select option to display slack time information from Gantt schedule views. This is relevant for Maintenance (cMRO) plans only.
Select related work order for release Select option to automatically select related work orders within the Edit Work Order Release (Release to Production) window.
Generate solver .SIF file Use this option to generate a Solver Information Format (SIF) file. This file is basically a memory dump of the current solver stage. This file is not useful for a customer to examine and would only be useful if requested by Oracle Support or Development for debugging purposes. The file is saved in the current working directory, which will typically be the location where the model was imported from.
Respect Firm Dates in Timefence Select option to generate a schedule that respects any firm dates defined in the timefence. This option is selected by default.
Work order display in Production Pegging View Use this option to define how work orders appear in the Production Pegging view. The following options are available:
    • Work Order Number - Select this option to display only work order numbers in Production Pegging view.

    • Work Order Description - Select this option to display only the work order descriptions in the Production Pegging view.

    • Work Order Number: Work Order Description - Select this option to display the work order number followed by the work order description.

    • Work order Description: Work Order Number - Select this option to display work order description followed by the work order number.

Note: If no work order description is available, the work order number is displayed by default.

  4. Click OK.
