Configuring Scenario Properties

This chapter covers the following topics:

Accessing the Scenario Properties Window

Use the scenario Properties window to define settings used in your model and displays the following tabs:

To access the Scenario Properties window:

  1. From the Model Workspace, right-click on a scenario.

  2. Select the Properties option.

Setting Up the Scenario Properties - General Tab

Use the General tab from the scenario Properties window to define general model information:

To set up scenario properties:

  1. From the Model Workspace, right-click the scenario and select Properties.

  2. Complete these fields:

Scenario Properties - General Tab Field Description
Code Specify a name for the schedule.
Plan ID Displays the Plan ID, if one has been assigned.
Branch/Organization Enter the branch code or organization code for your schedule.
    KPI Cost Parameters
    (key performance indicator cost parameters)
Select a currency symbol. If the desired symbol does not appear, you can enter it in the space provided. Enter the Fixed Cost value. Use the Fixed Cost unit of measure list to select one of the following options: second, minute, hour, day, or week. This field provides the cost time unit for resource and operating costs.
Cost Precision Specify the number of decimal places for cost. For example, the number 5.125 has three decimal places so the precision is three.
Duration Precision Specify the number of decimal places for duration.
Use Theory of Constraints Principles Select this option to enable Theory of Constraints functionality.
See "Working with Buffers," Creating Production Scheduling Models, Production Scheduling.
Notes Specify relevant information about this model or schedule. For example, if you have made what-if model changes, you can describe these changes here.
  3. Click OK.

Setting Up the Scenario Properties - Horizon Tab

Use the Scenario Properties - Horizon tab to set up the schedule horizon.

To set up the Scenario Properties - Horizon tab:

  1. From the Model Workspace, right-click the scenario and select Properties.

  2. Select the Horizon tab.

  3. Complete these fields:

Scenario Properties - Horizon Tab Field Description
Start Date Specify the start date of the schedule horizon.
End Date Specify the end date of the schedule horizon.
First Cycle Start Time Specify the start date for the first production cycle. Campaign Run Optimization resources use this time to identify the beginning of a production cycle.
  4. Click OK.

Setting Up the Scenario Properties - Unit of Measure Tab

Use the Unit of Measure tab from the scenario Properties window to define unit of measure for the model. Once the unit of measures are defined, they appear as options on the item Properties - Constraints tab.

To set up the Scenario Properties - Unit Of Measure tab:

  1. From the Model Workspace, right-click the scenario and select Properties.

  2. Select the Unit of Measure tab.

  3. Click the Add button to add a unit of measure.

  4. To remove a unit of measure:

    • Select the unit and click the Delete button.

    • Right-click the unit and select Delete.

Note: The Each unit of measure cannot be deleted, as you need to have at least one in the model.

All data for an item must be in the same unit of measure. For example, you cannot manufacture an item as an each and order the item in cases. Production Scheduling does not perform unit of measure conversion.

  5. To rename a unit, right-click and select Rename. Enter the new unit of measure name.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Associate the unit of measure to an item from the item Properties - Constraints tab.

Setting Up the Scenario Properties - Maintenance Display Parameters Tab

Use the Maintenance Display Parameters tab from the scenario Properties window to define custom labels for Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) hierarchies for the model. If these fields are updated, the assigned names assigned are reflected in the Maintenance tab in the Work Order Editor.

  1. From the Model Workspace, right-click the scenario and select Properties.

  2. Select the Maintenance Display Parameters tab.

  3. To modify a parameter name, enter the new name.

  4. To clear all the parameter field names, Click Clear All. Enter new parameters names as needed.

  5. To set all parameters to the default setting, click Default All. The names are changed to Attribute 1, Attribute 2, and so on.

  6. Click OK.

Setting Up the Scenario Properties - Attribute Highlight Order Tab

Use the Attribute Highlight Order tab from the scenario Properties window to enable attributes highlighted within the scenario and define the highlight sequence. This is required if you have assigned colors to your attributes and want them to display within the scheduled views. Since it is possible to have more than one attribute assigned to an operation, the Attribute Highlight Order tab allows you to define the highlight order when multiple attributes appear in a view.

  1. From the Model Workspace, right-click the scenario and select Properties.

  2. Select the Attribute Highlight Order tab.

  3. Check the attributes to be highlight in scenario.

  4. Use the Move Selection Up or Move Selection Down buttons to define the highlight sequence order. The sequence order when highlighting is enabled is determined by the attribute’s location in the Highlight sequence box. The attribute at the top has higher priority than those below.

  5. Click OK.
