This guide provides instructions, background information, and reference material to help you install the SPARCtrademark Enterprise T1000 server.

Instructions for installation in the document assume that a system administrator is experienced with the Solaristrademark Operating System (Solaris OS).

Note - All internal components must be installed by qualified service technicians only.

How This Document Is Organized

This document is organized in the following way:

Chapter 1 provides an overview of the server installation process.

Chapter 2 provides instructions for installing the server into a rack.

Chapter 3 provides instructions for configuring and powering on the server, and for installing additional software.

Appendix A provides instructions for updating the system controller firmware and the host firmware.

Appendix B provides instructions for selecting a boot device.

Appendix C provides configuration instructions for servers that use an earlier version of firmware than Sun system firmware 6.2.

This document might not contain information about basic UNIX® commands and procedures such as shutting down the system, booting the system, and configuring devices. Refer to the following for this information:

Typographic Conventions

Edit your.login file.

Use ls -a to list all files.

Book titles, new words or terms, words to be emphasized. Replace command-line variables with real names or values.

These are called class options.

You must be superuser to do this.

To delete a file, type rm filename.
