Changes in Software

This section describes changes in Sun Fire Midrange Systems add-on software between the release of Sun Management Center 3.5 software and this release of Sun Management Center 3.5 add-on software for Sun Fire Midrange Systems, Version 3.

• Adds support for peripheral component interconnect plus (PCI+) input/output (I/O) boards.
• Adds support for UltraSPARC IV central processing units (CPUs).
• Adds support for two new models in the Sun Fire Midrange Systems family: E6900 and E4900. The supported model numbers for the release are:
• E6900
• E4900
• 6800
• 4800
• 4810
• 3800

• Changes system title to the more generic Sun Fire Midrange Systems rather than listing all the model numbers.

General Information

This section describes general information about this release of Sun Management Center 3.5 add-on software for Sun Fire Midrange Systems, Version 3.

Automatic Diagnosis and Recovery Features Not Reported

Sun Management Center does not report the fault event information reported in the automatic diagnosis and recovery features provided in firmware release 5.15 and greater as described in the Sun Fire Midrange Systems Platform Administration Manual and the Sun Fire Midrange System Controller Command Reference Manual for 5.15 and greater.

Use CLI Commands for Hot-Swapping Operations

Use command-line interface (CLI) commands to perform hot-swap operations, rather than Sun Management Center 3.5 Version 3 add-on software for Sun Fire Midrange Systems. Known Bugs

This section describes software bugs known at the time of this release and that you may notice or that can affect the operation of Sun Management Center 3.5 add-on software for Sun Fire Midrange Systems, Version 3.

Platform Agent Physical View Still Shows Removed Components (Bug ID 4970824)

After central processing unit/memory (CPU/MEM) boards, input/output (I/O) boards, power supplies, fan trays, system controllers, and L2 repeaters are dynamically reconfigured (DR), unassigned, and removed successfully, the Platform Agent physical view still shows the image of the component in the chassis with -- for every monitored attribute on the right side of the window.

Workaround: Close and reopen the Details window.

Platform Agent Monitor Slot SC View Shows System Controller Connected After Hot-Swapped Out (Bug ID 4973201)

The Platform Agent Slot system controller (SC) view and hardware platform physical and logical views show the system controller connected after it has been hot-swapped out.

Workarounds:

1. Restart the platform agent.

2. Wait for the next refresh cycle (about 30 minutes).

3. On the system controller command line interface (CLI), issue any command to refresh the Sun Management Center console.

Dynamic Reconfiguration Module Does Not Update Tables After Hot-Swap Operations on cPCI/hPCI Cards (Bug ID 4974969)

The Dynamic Reconfiguration module does not correctly update tables after hot- swap operations on compact PCI/hot-swap PCI (cPCI/hPCI) cards on a Sun Fire Link PCI (WPCI) board. Upon removal of the card, the Attachment Points -> cPCI/hPCI table continues to show the card in the table. Upon insertion of the card, the Attachment Points -> cPCI/hPCI table continues to not show the card in the table.

Workarounds:

1. Restart the domain agent.

2. Wait for the next refresh cycle (about 30 minutes).

3. On the system controller command line interface (CLI), issue any command to refresh the Sun Management Center console.

SC Table Displays Incorrect Values (Bug ID 4975830)

In Hardware -> Platform Administration -> Platform -> Slots, the following properties in the SC table display these incorrect values.

• SC IP Address: 0.0.0.0
• SC Netmask: 0.0.0.0
• SC Number Connections of Main SC: 1
• SC Number Connections of Spare SC: -1

Workaround: None

SC Power Status Is Not Updated in SC Table After Powering Off Spare System Controller (Bug ID 4976504)

In Hardware -> Platform Administration -> Platform -> Slots, the SC Power Status property in the SC table still shows that the spare system controller is powered on after it has been powered off.

Workarounds:

1. Restart the platform agent.

2. Wait for the next refresh cycle (about 30 minutes).

3. On the system controller command line interface (CLI), issue any command to refresh the Sun Management Center console.

When Power Supply Is Powered Off, Sun Management Center Does Not Receive Notice (Bug ID 4976872)

When a power supply is powered off, notice is not sent to Sun Management Center; therefore, the power supply Status property field still says PoweredOn.

Workarounds:

1. Restart the platform agent.

2. Wait for the next refresh cycle (about 30 minutes).

3. On the system controller command line interface (CLI), issue any command to refresh the Sun Management Center console.

Platform Administration Tables Not Updated Quickly After Domain Dynamic Reconfiguration Operation (Bug ID 4979271)

The Sun Management Center Platform Administration tables are not updated in a timely manner when a domain dynamic reconfiguration (DR) operation completes successfully, such as a system board being powered off. (See also Bug ID 4976872).

Workarounds:

1. Restart the platform agent.

2. Wait for the next refresh cycle (about 30 minutes).

3. On the system controller command line interface (CLI), issue any DR command to refresh the Sun Management Center console.

Platform Administration Domain X View Keyswitch Operations Fail to Show Correct State (Bug ID 4982790)

The Platform Administration Domains table may not show the correct Domain Keyswitch position.

Workarounds:

1. Right-click on the Domains table, and click the Refresh button. The Domain Keyswitch value is updated.

2. Switch to another table in Platform Administration, then switch back to the Domains table. The Domain Keyswitch value is updated.

SC Table Displays Incorrect SC Board Type for New SC Board Type (Bug ID 4983881)

Sun Management Center shows all system controller (SC) boards to be of type SC, regardless of the SC's revision.

Workaround: Use the showboards CLI command to display the correct SC revision number. Refer to the Sun Fire Midrange System Controller Command Reference Manual for more information about the showboards command.

Platform Administration Chassis and Domain X Syslog Loghosts Cannot Be Removed or Cleared (Bug ID 4984145)

From the Platform Administration Chassis and Domain X Setup Loghosts dialog box, the Syslog Loghosts entry cannot be removed or cleared. If you attempt to remove or clear the Syslog Loghosts entry, the data remains unchanged, and you receive no warning.

Workaround: None.

Platform Administration Chassis and Domain X Trap Host Can Be Removed and Cleared (Bug ID 4984162)

From the Platform Administration Chassis and Domain X Setup Loghosts dialog box, the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Trap Host entry can be removed or cleared, and you receive no warning.

Caution - Sun Management Center does not function correctly if the SNMP trap host is not set.

Workaround: Do not remove or clear the SNMP Trap Host entry.

Platform Administration Slot SC Time Zone Does Not Update Quickly When Changed Using CLI Command (Bug ID 4984906)

By design, Sun Management Center does not automatically update the Platform Administration Slot SC table when the SC time zone is changed. The SC Timezone property is updated at the next refresh cycle.

Workarounds:

1. Restart the platform agent.

2. Wait for the next refresh cycle (about 30 minutes).

Platform Administration Slot System Controller Network Setup Accepts Invalid Network Mask and IP Address (Bug ID 4984961)

In the SC Network Settings dialog window, the netmasks and IP addresses you enter are not checked for validity by Sun Management Center.

Workarounds:

1. Visually inspect the netmasks and IP addresses before submitting the network setup updates.

2. Check the SC via an open telnet session by running the showplatform CLI command.

Upgrading Add-on Software Fails Using Sun Management Center 3.5 Install Wizard (Bug ID 4994230)

If you install the base Sun Management Center 3.5 software and the Sun Fire Midrange Systems add-on software for both the agent and server layers, and then try to upgrade the Sun Fire Midrange Systems add-on software using the GUI installation command es-guiinst, the installation fails with an erroneous error message "insufficient disk space."

Workarounds:

1. Use the command line interface (CLI) command es-inst to do the upgrade.

2. First use the graphical user interface (GUI) command es-guiuninst to uninstall the previous add-on software, and then use the GUI command es-guiinst to install the new add-on software.

Agent Update Status Reports "Failed," But Is Actually Successful (Bug ID 4994784)

After performing an agent update on Sun Fire Midrange Systems domains, the Manage Jobs status reports "Failed," but the agent update actually succeeds.

Workaround: Check the agent-update log file (var/opt/SunWsymon/log/agent-update.log) on the domain for the correct status, instead of relying on the status in the Manage Jobs window.

Documentation Errata

This section describes documentation errors known at the time of this release and that you may notice or that can affect the operation of Sun Management Center 3.5 add-on software for Sun Fire Midrange Systems, Version 3.

Package Table Has Some Incorrect Base Layers Where Packages Belong

Base layers where some packages belong are incorrect in Table 2-1, Sun Management Center Packages for Sun Fire Midrange Systems, on page 14 of the Sun Management Center 3.5 Version 3 Supplement for Sun Fire Midrange Systems. The following base layers are correct for their corresponding packages and should be substituted for those packages in Table 2-1.

Power Off Option Listed Incorrectly As Available for Power Supplies (Bug ID 4979650)

The power off option is not listed on the Platform Administration module menu for power supplies, which is correct. However, Table 3-29 on page 92 of the Sun Management Center 3.5 Version 3 Supplement for Sun Fire Midrange Systems, indicates that you can power off a power supply, which is incorrect. You cannot power off a power supply from the Sun Management Center console.

Chassis Uptime in Chassis Table Is Displayed in Milliseconds (Bug ID 4983723)

The description for the Chassis Uptime property field in Table 3-14, Platform Chassis, page 77 of the Sun Management Center 3.5 Version 3 Supplement for Sun Fire Midrange Systems should read:

"Displays the time the chassis has been up in milliseconds (ms)"

Power Supply Domain Is Missing From the Power Supply Table (Bug ID 4983868)

The Power Supply Domain property should be added to Table 3-20, Platform Power Supply, on page 83 of the Sun Management Center 3.5 Version 3 Supplement for Sun Fire Midrange Systems. The field belongs between the Power Supply Test Status and the Slot Status properties. The description for the property should be:

"Displays Isolated, because a power supply cannot be assigned to a domain"

Platform Administration Test Board Option Is Available for CPU Boards Only (Bug ID 4984111)

These three areas of the Sun Management Center 3.5 Version 3 Supplement for Sun Fire Midrange Systems are affected by this bug:

• Table 3-29 on pages 91 and 92 indicates that you can test CPU boards; it does not indicate that you can test I/O boards. This table is correct.
• In Table 3-30 on page 92, it should say after Test that the action enables you to test a CPU board only.
• On page 96, there should be a Note under To Test a Board saying that you can test only CPU boards.

L2 Repeater Name in L2 Repeater Table Should Be RPx (Bug ID 4985851)

On page 81 of the Sun Management Center 3.5 Version 3 Supplement for Sun Fire Midrange Systems, Table 3-18, Platform Slots L2 Repeaters, the RP0x in the description of the L2 Repeater Name should be RPx, where x is the slot number containing the repeater.

Description for Property Disk Name in Disk Device Table Is Incorrect (Bug ID 4987337)

On page 130 of the Sun Management Center 3.5 Version 3 Supplement for Sun Fire Midrange Systems, Table 4-9, Domain Disk Devices, the description for the property Disk Name in the Disk Device Table is incorrect. The description for Disk Name should be:

"Displays the disk name with bus controller, such as c1t0d0 or c2t0d0"

Descriptions of L2 Repeater and Fan Tray Domains Are Incorrect (Bug ID 4988664)

• On page 82, Table 3-18, Platform Slots L2 Repeaters, of the Sun Management Center 3.5 Version 3 Supplement for Sun Fire Midrange Systems, the description of L2 Repeater Domain should read:

"Displays Isolated, because an L2 repeater cannot be assigned to a domain"

• On page 82, Table 3-19, Platform Slots Fan Trays, the description of Fan Domain should read:

"Displays Isolated, because a fan tray cannot be assigned to a domain"
