An allocatable device may optionally have a device clean program. Device clean programs are specified in the device-clean field in the device_allocate(4) file. Device clean programs are invoked by allocate(1M) and deallocate(1M) to clean device states, registers, and any residual information in the device before it is allocated to a user as required by the object reuse policy, and also to ensure proper media labeling by asking the user to confirm the correct labeled media is inserted in the device on allocation and by asking the user to confirm removal of the media and affix correct label on the media.
