What You Need to Know Before Installing
For GlassFish ESB, GUI and command-line interface (CLI) installations are available for all supported operating systems. The CLI installation lets you specify installation parameters in a state file that is invoked using command line options. It has the option of a silent installation, which is run completely in the background. The GUI installer's wizard takes you through an interactive installation, prompting you along the way with installation questions.
A complete installation includes the following components:
NetBeansTM IDE 6.5 ML
GlassFish v2.1
Open ESB core components
Java Business Integration (JBI) service engines
Java Business Integration (JBI) binding components
Java Business Integration (JBI) component tooling
Sun Uninstallation software.
IDE is an acronym for an integrated development environment. It consists of a number of components, such as a compiler, source code editor, build tools, debugger, browser, object inspector, class hierarchy diagram, and so on. These components can be used when performing object-oriented software development. The integrated tools can also be used to build a graphical user interface (GUI).
Important Installation Notes:
GlassFish ESB does not support spaces in the installation directory path.
You must have the JDKTM (Java Development Kit) software installed and JAVA_HOME set prior to installing GlassFish ESB or the Installer will halt the installation. See JDK and JAVA_HOME for more information.
The following topics list the supported operating systems for both the design-time (NetBeans) and runtime (GlassFish) components of GlassFish ESB, and also list the supported external systems for the components of GlassFish ESB.

GlassFish ESB Installation Requirements
To install GlassFish ESB, you need 185 MB of free storage space.
Exit from all Windows programs prior to running the setup.
Default User Names and Passwords
The GlassFish default user name is admin and the password is adminadmin. You use them when you start GlassFish.
Select the system(s) that will host NetBeans.
Ensure that each system that you select meets the system requirements for GlassFish ESB. For more information on resource requirements, see Before You Install.
The Java Development Kit (JDK) must be installed, and the JAVA_HOME environment variable must be set, on the computer on which you install GlassFish ESB prior to beginning the installation. Different operating systems require different JDK.
The following list provides the GlassFish ESB JDK requirements by platform.
JDK5: At least release 1.5.0_14
JDK6: At least release 1.6.0_03
JDK5: At least release 1.5.0_14
JDK6: At least release 1.6.0_03
JDK5: At least release 1.5.0_14
JDK5: The latest 1.5 release supported by Apple
JDK5: At least release 1.5.0_14
JDK6: At least release 1.6.0_03
It is not recommended to use JDK 1.6.0_13 or 1.6.0_14 with GlassFish ESB v2.1 due to issues with several of the wizards used to develop applications. In addition, the GlassFish ESB Installer fails to install on Windows when using JDK 1.6.0_13 or 1.6.0_14. The GlassFish ESB Installer does not support JDK release 1.6.0_04 in the 64–bit version on the Solaris SPARC or AMD 64–bit environments. The installer also does not support JDK release 1.6.0 or later on AIX 5.3.
