B. About the Sun Studio 12: X-Designer

X-Designer is an interactive tool for creating robust Motif-based and Java[tm] graphical user interfaces with minimal effort. X-Designer is a component of the Sun Studio integrated development environment.

X-Designer runs on SPARC[tm] processors running the Solaris[tm] Operating System (Solaris OS), and on x86 processors running the Solaris OS or the Linux operating system. X-Designer requires one of the following configurations:

OpenMotif 2.1.31 is included as a component of Sun Studio 12 software for Linux Platforms. Install this component even if you have OpenMotif 2.2, because X-Designer does not run well with OpenMotif 2.2.

C. New and Changed Features

This section describes the new and changed features of X-Designer.

The default web browser used for viewing the help and documentation files is now mozilla. If X-Designer is unable to find mozilla it
will look for a number of other web browsers in the user's PATH. To force the use of a particular web browser, the user can set the
XDHELP_BROWSER environment variable to the name of the desired browser.

D. Software Corrections

There is no new information as of this printing.

E. Problems and Workarounds

This section discusses known software problems and possible workarounds for those problems.

There is a problem with the xdcapture program when used with 64 bit applications on Solaris x86 platforms. When used interactively  this situation, the xdcapture program crashes. However xdcapture does work when used in non-interactive mode. To run xdcapture in non-interactive mode you need to use the "-f <design-output-file>"  flag, for example:

    xdcapture -t amd64 -f prog64.xd 64bit-prog

You can then capture the design by pressing the "hot key" (usually  F5) with the keyboard focus in the target application.
Alternatively, instead of using the "hot key", you can capture the  design automatically by using the "-static-design" flag:

    xdcapture -t amd64 -static-design -f prog64.xd 64bit-prog

Note that this is only a limitation with 64 bit applications on Solaris x86 platforms. On Solaris SPARC and Linuxx86  platforms this  limitation does not apply.
