Oracle Solaris Hardware Compatibility List

Chapter 1 Hardware Compatibility List

The Hardware Compatibility List shows you what hardware is certified or is reported to work with the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) on x86 platforms. The Hardware Certification Test Suite enables you to certify new hardware to add to the list.

Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)

The Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) identifies hardware that is compatible with the Solaris OS. Separate lists identify systems and components that are compatible with the latest commercial versions of the Solaris OS and with the latest development versions. To view the lists, see http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl. At the bottom of this page is a link to the HCL in a Comma Separated Value (CSV) format that enables you to search or sort the list as a spreadsheet or database. Also at the bottom of this page are links to hardware compatibility lists for older versions of the Solaris OS.

Any hardware vendor or user can submit items to the HCL. The HCL is divided into two sections: Certified and Reported to Work. By using HCTS, you can submit hardware as Certified. If you do not use HCTS, you can still submit hardware as Reported to Work.

Certified

Oracle Certified hardware includes all hardware that has passed testing with the Hardware Certification Test Suite (HCTS).

Reported to Work

Hardware that is listed in this category is reported to operate with the Solaris OS. Oracle appreciates the contributions of the user community in providing this data. You do not need to run the HCTS to list hardware in this category.

Oracle Services provides Oracle Support for both Certified and Reported to Work hardware.

Hardware Certification Test Suite (HCTS)

The Hardware Certification Test Suite (HCTS) includes system and component certification tests. HCTS tests certify x86-based servers, laptop and desktop systems, motherboards, and various network, storage, and serial I/O controllers to work with the Solaris OS. HCTS collects log files, determines test pass or fail results, and generates a final test report. Hardware that passes HCTS testing is eligible to be included in the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) as Certified.

For information on how to use the HCTS, see http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts.
