Changes to the Login Page and Calendar Views

New Login Page and Welcome Banner
Calendar Express 5.1.1 has a new login page, with new colors, graphics, and a link to the http://www.sun.com/software/ web site. (To login, however, you still use your existing LDAP user name and password.)

Changes to the Edit Event Compose Tab Window

Revised Compose Tab on Edit Event Window
The Compose tab includes these changes:

  • The Calendars and Details tabs and subsequent windows have been removed. The Calendar pull-down menu on the Compose tab allows you to select another calendar. See Simplified Selection of Calendars. The Location and Description fields are now available on the Compose tab.
  • The Location and Description fields are moved from the Details window, and the Details window has been removed.
  • The Event Title field does not display Untitled Event; however, if you do not provide a title, Calendar Express use Untitled Event as the name.
  • The Inform About Event is now optional. See Optional Inform List.

Simplified Selection of Calendars
On the Compose tab, you can easily select another calendar from the Calendar pull-down menu. This pull-down menu includes:

  • Your own calendar
  • Calendars for which you have been designated as an additional owner
  • Calendars for which you have been granted modify/delete privileges
Thus, you can quickly change calendars when you are creating an event or task or easily move events or tasks from one calendar to another.

Quick Invite for Calendar Users and Calendar Groups
On the Compose tab when you are creating or editing an event, you can use the Quick Invite feature to invite both calendar users and calendar groups. Click ---Quick Invite--- and then select a user or calendar group from the pull-down menu. This list shows your own calendars and groups and your subscribed calendars for which you have Invite permission.

For each user you add, Calendar Express adds the user's calendar ID to the list of invitees. If you add a calendar group, Calendar Express adds either each group member's calendar ID or email address if you don't have Invite permission to the calendar.

User Search Changes
On the Compose tab, the search icon (magnifying glass) has been replaced with a Search button to activate the User Search window.

On the User Search window, the search function is now cumulative. You can select calendar users or resources and then continue to search for additional names. After a search, check one or more names in the Search Results list, and then click either the Apply or Search button to add the names to your list of selected users. You can then continue to search for additional names, or click OK if you are finished.

The User Search also returns the user's email address, if it is available.

Time of Reminder Message for All-Day Event
If you choose to receive a reminder email message for an all-day event, Calendar Express 5.1.1 displays an option to set the default time of the message as the time you have set as the start of your day under Options > Settings. For example, if you start your day at 9:00 a.m., Calendar Express uses 9:00 a.m. as the default time to send you a reminder message.

Recurrence Window Repeat Patterns
On the Recurrence window for an event or task, the Recurrence function is now on one window, and the Repeat Pattern selections have been redesigned. Calendar Express displays different repeat patterns for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly events or tasks.

For the end date for an event, "Forever" has been replaced by "No end date". The default number of events is 5, and the maximum is 60 (although this value can be set to other values by your Calendar Server administrator).

Show Availability
On the Availability window, the Update text box has been replaced with a Show Availability text box to recalculate the availability if you have selected a new date.

Optional Inform List
By default, Calendar Express 5.1.1 does not display the "Inform About Event" option when you create or edit an event. For compatibility with earlier releases, however, your Calendar Server administrator can specify this option for your site by setting a server configuration parameter.

Calendar Search for Calendar Group

On the Calendars Search window, the search function is now cumulative. After a search, you can select one or more calendar users and then continue to search for additional users. You check one or more users in the Search Results list, and then click either the Apply or Search button to add the users to your list of selected users.
