Sun Java Enterprise System 5 Monitoring Guide

Suggested Installation Sequence

If you choose to evaluate or deploy the monitoring feature of Java ES, it is easiest to perform the installation in the following order:

  1. Install and configure all of the components in your deployment according to the recommendations and instructions in the Sun Java Enterprise System 5 Installation Guide for UNIX.

  2. Enable and configure the Monitoring Framework for all of your monitored components, as described in Chapter 2, Enabling and Configuring the Monitoring Framework.

  3. Install the Monitoring Console on a separate host, start the master agent, and then start the web server, as described in Chapter 3, Installing and Using Monitoring Console. All of your monitored components should then be visible and actively monitored in the Monitoring Console.

Note –

Due to an incompatibility of the node agent and master agent in this release, the Monitoring Console must be installed on a host that does not contain any other Java ES components. See Troubleshooting the Monitoring Console for more details.

Whenever you modify your deployed components after enabling monitoring, you will need to restart the container for the master agent and the web server for the Monitoring Console as described in Troubleshooting the Monitoring Framework.
