Open Issues

Disktest Should Perform More Robust File System Check

When unsafe testing is enabled, Disktest may perform write-read testing on the disks. (Refer to Safe and Unsafe Options in the SunVTS 7.0 Software User’s Guide, 820-0012-18). [CR 6889291]

Because the Write-read test can destroy data, Disktest usually will not perform the Write-read test if there is a file system present on the disk. However, under certain uncommon circumstances, Disktest may not recognize the presence of the file system and will perform write-read testing. This has been observed when USB thumb drives with NTFS are tested using SunVTS in unsafe mode. If SunVTS unsafe testing mode is used in such cases, you could lose data on the disk.

Under certain uncommon circumstances, Disktest may assume that there is a file system when no file system is present. This may result in disktest performing read-only testing (with no writes). If you want to run the Write-read test, follow this procedure.

caution icon Caution - All existing data on the disk will be destroyed if you use the workaround below.

Workaround: Follow this procedure to remove the file system.

1. As superuser, run the Solaris format command and select the disk that you want to perform the Write-read test on.

2. Select the analyze option.

3. Select the write option.

4. Allow the write operation to run for two minutes, then stop the operation by typing CTRL+C.

Support for Browser User Interface

The browser user (BUI) interface might not be included in a future release. You can continue to use the graphical user interface, command line interface, or TTY interface.
