Target and untarget diagnostic system modules

Before you begin

Create diagnostic system modules

When you target a diagnostic system module to a server instance, you apply the configuration defined in the diagnostic system module to the server instance (and thereby monitor the server instance, as defined in the diagnostic system module configuration). You can target a diagnostic module to individual stand-alone server instances, individual server instances in a cluster, or all server instances in a cluster. You can target the same module to one or more server instances or clusters, but you can target only one module at a time to a single server instance or cluster.

If you delete a diagnostic system module, you will lose all the configuration defined in that module. However, you can untarget a module so that the configuration is saved but is not currently being used. To apply the configuration defined in the module again, target it to one or more server instances, as before.

To target or untarget a diagnostic system module:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the left pane, expand Diagnostics and select Diagnostic Modules.
  3. On the Summary of Diagnostic Modules page, under Diagnostic System Modules, click the name of the diagnostic system module you want to target or untarget.
  4. On the Settings for [Module Name] page, select Targets. All servers and clusters in the domain are listed.
  5. Select or deselect the server instance(s) and/or cluster(s) to use as the target(s) and click Save.
  6. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).
