Target SNMP agents

You can target an SNMP agent to multiple WebLogic Server instances, however, each Managed Server can host only one SNMP agent. The Administration Server can host one server SNMP agent in addition to the domain-scoped SNMP agent.

If you target an agent to a Managed Server, the agent can gather data only from MBeans on the Managed Server. If you target an agent to the Administration Server, the agent can gather management data from MBeans throughout the domain. For more information, see Use SNMP to monitor WebLogic Server.

To target SNMP agents:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the Administration Console, under Domain Structure, expand Diagnostics and select SNMP.
  3. On the Summary of SNMP Agents page, in the Server SNMP Agents table, click the name of an SNMP agent.
  4. On the SNMP Agent: Configuration: General page, click the Targets tab.
  5. On the SNMP Server Agent Targets page, select the servers that you want this SNMP agent to monitor.
  6. Click Save.
  7. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).

After you finish

If you targeted the agent to the Administration Server, then you must explicitly configure each monitor, attribute change, and log filter in the agent with the list of servers on which you want the monitor, attribute change, or log filter to be active. See:
