It is preferable to make configuration changes to your Search application in a development or staging environment and then deploy the changes to your production environment. However, under some circumstances it may be necessary to change settings in the AEConfig.xml file while your application is up and running.
In this case, you will need to shut down your Search engines so that they can be restarted using the new settings. To make sure that users can continue to search your site while this update takes place, do the following:
On the machine on which your Search application is running, go to
http://hostname:port//dyn/admin/nucleus/atg/search/.
routing/RoutingSystemService/Select the environment with the engines you want to restart.
Click Cycle Engines.
When the page reloads, the engines have cycled. The page will display any errors that occur.
Warning: This procedure works only if you have more than one Search engine per partition (which should always be the case to ensure good performance and continuous support for user queries). If you have only one engine per partition, your site will experience Search interruptions.
