Customizations are used to enhance the out-of-the-box configuration for features such as languages, dictionaries, and topic sets. Most customizations are created and edited using the workbench. However, two customization types, Merchandising Search Configuration and Auxiliary Data customizations, can also be loaded by reference.

To add customizations by reference, create an XML file of the customization data and place that file in the correct folder in your ATG 9 installation. Search Administration automatically picks up the XML files and makes the customizations available to add to your Search projects.

Note: By default, Search customization data uses UTF-8 encoding. If your customization data file is encoded in something other than UTF-8, specify the correct encoding in the XML file header. For example:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
