3 Installing the UIM Sample Web Service

This chapter provides a summary of the steps for installing the Network Integrity Unified Inventory Management (UIM) Sample Web Service on UIM.

Installation

To install the UIM Sample Web Service:

  1. Install Design Studio for UIM. See Design Studio Installation Guide.

  2. Install Oracle WebLogic Server and UIM, or UIM resources, in an environment accessible to Design Studio. See Unified Inventory Management Installation and System Administration Guide for information about installing UIM. See Unified Inventory Management Developer's Guide for information about installing UIM resources.

  3. Load the ora_ni_uim_webservice project file (from the MIB-II UIM Integration Cartridge or Cisco Router and Switch UIM Cartridge) into Design Studio for UIM. See the Design Studio Help instructions for importing the UIM Sample Web Service project.

  4. Rename the etc\computer.properties files to host.properties, where host is the environment name of the computer.

    Note:

    Obtain the environment name for the computer by entering the hostname command at the prompt. The output from this command is the computer environment name.

    This enables the loaded Java project to reflect the environment.

  5. Edit the host.properties file and set the property fields to reference your WebLogic domain and UIM instance:

    WSDL_NAME=NI_Uim (do not modify)
    QUEUE_NAME=inventoryWSQueue (do not modify)
    MODULE_NAME=ora_ni_uim_webservices_cartproj (do not modify)
    WL9_HOME=C:/bea (edit to reflect your environment)
    APP_LIB=C:/bea/user_projects/domains/uim_str_711b101/metasolv/build/dist (edit to reflect your environment)
    METASOLV_HOME=C:/bea/user_projects/domains/uim_str_711b101/metasolv (edit to reflect your environment)
    EAR_PATH=${METASOLV_HOME}/build/dist/inventory.ear (edit to reflect your environment)

  6. Save and close host.properties.

  7. Set the project properties to Java 1.5.

  8. Set the project properties to use the following \lib JAR files:

    • WL_Home\weblogic92\server\lib\xbean.jar

    • WL_Home\weblogic92\server\lib\webservices.jar

    • WL_Home\weblogic92\server\lib\weblogic.jar

    • UIM_LIB\mslv-api-framework.jar

    • UIM_LIB\mslv-core.jar

    • UIM_LIB\mslv-entity-framework.jar

    • UIM_LIB\mslv-entity.jar

    • UIM_LIB\uim_webservices-framework.jar

    where:

    • WL_Home is the directory in which the WebLogic software is installed.

    • UIM_LIB is the directory in which the UIM \lib folder is installed.

  9. Stop UIM.

  10. Execute the following ANT targets in the build.xml file:

    • clean

    • get-framework-files

    • extract.ear

    • generate-from wsdl

    • build-service

    • update.ear

  11. Open UIM_LIB\inventory.ear.

  12. Extract META-INF\application.xml and add the following code fragment:

    <module>
      <web>
        <web-uri>NI_Uim.war</web-uri>
        <context-root>NI_Uim</context-root>
      </web>
    </module>

  13. Save and repackage application.xml.

  14. Start UIM.

  15. (Optional) If you are installing the Network Integrity UIM Sample Web Service on a UIM that is not located on the same server as Design Studio, do not execute update.ear. For information about installing UIM on a remote server, see Unified Inventory Management Developer's Guide.
