Change domain log file name and location

By default, the domain log file is located in the logs directory below the Administration Server root directory; for example, DOMAIN_NAME\servers\ADMIN_SERVER_NAME\logs\DOMAIN_NAME.log, where DOMAIN_NAME is the name of the directory in which you located the domain and ADMIN_SERVER_NAME the name of the Administration Server.

To change the default name or location of the domain's log file:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the left pane of the Console, click the domain name.
  3. Select Configuration > Logging.
  4. In the Log File Name field, enter a path and filename for the domain log.

Enter an absolute pathname or a pathname that is relative to the root directory of the Administration Server. For more information, see A Server's Root Directory.

For information about including a time and date stamp in the name of rotated domain log files, see Rotate log files.

  5. Click Save.
  6. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).

Result

The Administration Server writes all subsequent domain messages to the new file.

After you finish

Restart the Administration Server.
