Change General Properties

After completing this topic, you will be able to change General properties.

Steps:

1. Step 1

2. The Views and Toolbars section is already selected. Add another document to the selection.

    

   Press the [Ctrl] key and click the Changing Word Wrap Options topic.

   Step 2

3. Change the language property for both documents to Dutch.

    

   Click in the Language field.

   Step 3

4. Click the Language list button.

   Step 4

5. Click the Dutch list item.

   Step 5

6. Change the Template language to Dutch.

    

   Click in the Template field.

   Step 6

7. Click the Browse button for the Template field.

   Step 7

8. Use the Look in list to select the Dutch language folder nl.

    

   Click the Look in list.

9. Select the Dutch language folder.

    

   Click the nl folder.

   Step 9

10. Select the desired template.

     

    Click the Microsoft - Dutch template.

11. Click the Open button.

12. Change the resolution for the Views and Toolbars section.

     

    Click the Views and Toolbars list item.

13. Click in the Resolution field.

14. Click the Resolution list button.

15. Click the 640 x 480 list item.

16. Link a new section to the Views and Toolbars section.

     

    Click the Link New Section button.

17. Enter the desired information into the Edit field. Enter "Test".

18. Press [Enter].

19. Notice that the new section inherits the language, resolution, and template of its parent. It would also inherit the glossary, if one had been assigned.

20. Link a new topic to the Test section.

     

    Click the Link New Topic button.

21. Enter the desired information into the Edit field. Enter "Test2".

22. Press [Enter].

23. Notice that the new topic also inherits the language, resolution, and template of its parent and would inherit a glossary, if one was assigned.

     

    Tip: New web pages you create from the Concept pane in the Outline Editor for a section or topic inherit the glossary and language settings of the parent document.

24. Click the Work with Views list item.

25. Notice that the general properties have not changed. Changing the general properties of a parent does not change the property assignments for existing documents, even if they are linked.

26. Double-click the Changing Word Wrap Options topic to open it in the Topic Editor.

27. Notice the translation for the "Press [Enter] to start" template text in the Introduction frame.

28. Click the first F frame.

29. The custom text remains in English. Changing the Template property does not affect custom text. This text must be manually translated.

     

    This frame also uses the template for the text in the bubble. Notice the language used for the instruction to "Click the View menu."

30. Click the tab Close button to close the topic.
