This format allows you to create files that can be imported into testing software applications such as Oracle Application Testing Suite (OATS), HP Quality Center, or IBM Rational Quality Manager. If you select multiple items in the outline, the published output is combined into a single file with each topic separated by a blank row. This file can then be imported into the testing software in a single operation.

Only topics with content are included in the output; empty topics do not appear. In addition, modules and sections are not included in the output. The output is an Excel Workbook file, either .xlsx or .xls. Be sure to choose the correct version to import into your testing suite application.

Note: To export output from Microsoft Excel into HP Quality Center, you need the HP Quality Center Microsoft Add-in installed. See the HP Quality Center documentation for more information.

Alternative paths and actions are not included in this format, but you can change the publishing option to include them. Decision frames are automatically included and cannot be suppressed. You can edit the output in Microsoft Excel to remove any unwanted Decision frame material. Explanation frames are not included.

If context ID information is available for a frame, it is included at the end of the Action cell. The type of information will differ or may not appear, depending on the target application of the topic.

When you publish the Test Case format, you can choose from four formats: Oracle Application Testing Suite, HP Quality Center, IBM Rational Quality Manager, and Other. Each Test Case output format has a template that contains the appropriate columns. This template is called ColumnSpec.xml, and it can be customized to meet your output needs. The templates are stored in the Library under Publishing\Styles. There is a separate .xml file in each language folder. See Customize the Test Case Output in the Publish Content chapter for more information.
