The search project contains information about a set of searchable content you define, and the configuration information for that content, such as where it comes from, what rules are followed for its indexing, and which customization data is applied. Project Administration is the part of the Search Administration interface dedicated to project-related tasks.

Note: A search project is not an ATG Content Administration project. Search projects do not contain deployable assets and do not have an associated workflow, but are a means to organize and configure a given set of indexable content.

The center of the project is an index, the searchable content produced by Oracle ATG Web Commerce Search processing. Each project has one index. The index is created from the content sets, which organize the content you want to include in the index. Content refers to the original, unprocessed repositories, documents, etc. that you want to make searchable.

The project links the index with search environments, which perform the tasks of indexing content and answering end-user queries.

Projects also link an index with customization data, such as topic sets or specialized dictionaries. This customization data is created using the Workbench (see next section) or through other applications such as Oracle ATG Web Commerce Merchandising.
