1 About the OSM Administrator

This chapter provides an overview of the Oracle Communications Order and Service Management (OSM) Administrator.

About the OSM Administrator

You use the OSM Administrator to do the following:

The OSM Administrator is automatically installed when you install the OSM software.

OSM Administrator Prerequisites

This section lists the prerequisites for starting the OSM Administrator.

Before launching OSM Administrator, ensure that:

Logging In to the OSM Administrator

To log in to the OSM Administrator:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, select Programs, Oracle - Communications, OSM, and then Administrator.

The OSM Administrator Login dialog box appears.

    Note:

You must be a member of the "OMS_workgroup_manager" WebLogic group in order to access the Administrator client.
  2. In the User Name field, enter your user name.

  3. In the Password field, enter your password.

  4. From the Host list, select the appropriate host.

  5. From the Server/Port list, select the appropriate server/port.

  6. Click OK.

The Select a Cartridge dialog box appears.

  7. From the Namespace area, select the namespace of the cartridge.

  8. From the Version area, select the version of the cartridge.

  9. Click OK.

Switching Between Cartridges

You can switch between cartridges during your OSM Administrator session.

To switch between cartridges:

  1. From the File menu, select Cartridges.

The Select a Cartridge dialog box appears.

  2. From the Namespace area, select the namespace of the cartridge you want to switch to.

  3. From the Version area, select the version of the cartridge.

  4. Click OK.

Enabling the Confirm on Refresh Option

OSM Administrator supports the following refresh operations:

If you enable the Confirm on Refresh option (from the Options menu), a confirmation message appears whenever you click the Refresh button (except in the Notifications and System Events tabs). By default, the option is disabled and no confirmation messages appear.

The Confirm on Refresh option helps you to differentiate among the different types of refreshes available. For example, refreshing the full server cache may take a significant amount of time because you are refreshing the metadata for all the cartridges. Similarly, a refresh of the user data could take longer than usual if many new users have been added in WebLogic and subsequently need to be retrieved to refresh the user list. The workgroup refresh typically takes less time than the other two refresh operations.

Logging Out of the OSM Administrator

To log out of the OSM Administrator:

  1. From the File menu, select Exit.

    The Confirm dialog box appears.

  2. (Optional) To update the server cache, select the Update the server cache check box.

Metadata refresh is triggered on the server to refresh the server cache. This enables the server to use the latest configuration.

  3. Click OK.
