Check Out Documents


After completing this topic, you will be able to check out documents from the Library and Outline Editor.


Steps:

  1. The Creating Bullet Lists topic is selected. Check out the selected document.

     

    Click the Document menu.

  2. Click the Check Out command.

  3. A green checkmark appears next to the Creating Bullet Lists topic to indicate that the document is checked out to you.

  4. Check out a section.

     

    Click the Views and Toolbars section.

  5. Use the toolbar button to check out the section.

     

    Click the Check Out button.

  6. Because the section links to related child documents, you are prompted to define your selection. Include the related documents in the check out.

     

    Click the Check out my selection and related documents option.

  7. Click the OK button.

  8. The Developer checks out the Views and Toolbars section and the related Work with Views section and Hiding and Displaying the Ruler topic.

  9. Double-click the Editing Basics module to open it.

  10. The green checkmarks next to the documents in the outline indicate the documents checked out to you.

  11. Click the Work with Views section.

  12. Link a new topic to the section.

     

    Click the Link menu.

  13. Click the New Topic command.

  14. Enter "Hiding and Displaying the Status Bar".

  15. Press [Enter].

  16. Select the Inserting Dates and Objects section, which is not checked out to you.

     

    Click the Inserting Dates and Objects section.

  17. Link a new topic to the section.

     

    Click the Link menu.

  18. Click the New Topic command.

  19. Because the parent is checked in, you are prompted to check it out to finish creating the new document.

     

    Click the Yes button.

  20. Enter the desired information into the Name field. Enter "Formatting the Date".

  22. A green checkmark appears next to the new topic and the checked out parent section.

  23. Check in the Editing Basics module with related documents.

     

    Click the Editing Basics module.

  24. Use the toolbar button to check in the module.

     

    Click the Check In button.

  25. Click the Check in my selection and related documents option.

  26. Click the OK button.

  27. Check in all of the documents without a comment.

     

    Click the Apply to all documents option.
