Publish and Play Test It! Mode


After completing this topic, you will be able to publish and use Test It! mode.


Steps:

  1. The test results report, which appears at the conclusion of the Test It! procedure, is based on the Test Document format.

     

    Before publishing a Test It! player, you can use the Properties toolpane to enter information in the Test Document fields, which will populate the equivalent fields in the test results report.

     

    In this example, the author added information for the Estimated Time, Purpose of Test, and Test Setup fields.

     

    Note: The Estimated Time and Test Setup fields also appear in the first Test It! frame.

  2. Authors can also include comments for the tester describing the expected results for the frame by adding them to the Expected Results field in the Frame Comments toolpane.

     

    During playback, Expected Results comments appear in the Test It! window for the step.

  4. Publish a Player deployment that includes Test It! mode.

     

    Click the Create Test It! mode Player option.

    Click the Publish button.

  7. Notice the Test It! play mode button. This button appears for every topic when you publish a Player with Test It!.

     

    Test the steps for the Changing the Page Setup topic.

  8. The Test It! window opens on top of the target application.

     

    A frame appears before the Introduction frame. This frame may display the estimated time for the test and any setup instructions that should be performed before starting the test, if the author supplied this information.

  11. The bottom section of the Test It! window displays a graphic that illustrates how the screen should appear in the live application for the step. The marquee in the graphic surrounds the area in which you should perform the action in the live application.

  12. You can drag the graphic to reposition it within the Test It! window. You can also drag the lower right corner of the Test It! window to resize it and display more of the graphic, or you can use the Show/Hide Graphic button to toggle the display of the graphic in the Test It! window. You can also move the Test It! window to another area of the screen by dragging the title bar to the desired location on the screen.

  13. As you proceed through the test, you mark each step as passed, failed, or skipped. Restarting Test It! mode clears the step markings as well as the history of the steps.

     

    You can use the following Test It! options:

     

    1 - Go to previous frame

    2 - Mark this step as passed

    3 - Mark this step as failed

    4 - Skip this step

    5 - Add notes to this step

    6 - Open steps to recreate web page

  14. Mark the first step as passed.

     

    Click the Mark this step as passed button.

  16. If the author added Expected Results for the frame, the information appears in the Test It! window.

  18. In the test, you notice that the margins in the live application do not agree with the screenshot in the Test It! window. You intend to file a bug report with a list of the steps to create the problem. View the list of steps to the current frame.

     

    Click the Open steps to recreate web page button.

  19. The steps to recreate the web page lists all of the steps up to and including the current step. This list is used to reproduce any bug found at this point. Testers can copy these steps and paste them into the application they use to file bug reports.

     

    Note: Only steps marked passed or failed appear in the list.

  26. We have passed the rest of the steps until the End frame appears. Proceed to the next step in the testing process.

  27. The summary frame shows the number of passed, failed, and skipped steps, plus the total number of steps and the overall test results (PASSED or FAILED).

     

    Click the View detailed report link to view the test report.

  29. You can edit certain fields. In this example we added the name of the tester and test notes. You can also edit the actual time.

  30. The test procedures in the report show the passed, failed, and skipped steps. Notes recorded during the test also appear in the Test Step Notes column. You can type additional notes into this column.

     

    The Expected Results column shows comments that the author added in the Expected Results field in the Frame Comments toolpane in the Topic Editor.
