Operational Changes for UEFI BIOS Configuration

Note -  Server Platform Software Enhancement: As of Platform Software Release 1.2, the UEFI Configuration Synchronization option has been removed from the BIOS Advanced menu. Therefore, the user can no longer control the point at which Oracle ILOM synchronizes the UEFI configuration. UEFI configuration synchronization is now handled by the server platform software, so user actions are no longer required.

The process of synchronizing UEFI configuration between BIOS and Oracle ILOM has been modified to allow users to enable Late UEFI Configuration Synchronization (Synchronization Late). When enabled, Synchronization Late allows Oracle ILOM to attempt to synchronize the BIOS configuration either immediately before BIOS passes control to the host OS, or after saving and exiting from the BIOS Setup Utility.

There are two ways to enable or disable Synchronization Late:

  • Use the new normal-mode BIOS setup parameter in the UEFI Config XML file. The parameter provides the following information:

    <UEFI_Configuration_Synchronization>
    <!--Synchronization Late-->
    <!--Description: If enabled, Synchronization will occur at the end of post.-->
    <!--Possible Values: “Disabled”, “Enabled”-->
    <Synchronization_Late>Enabled</Synchronization_Late>

  • Log in to Oracle ILOM Remote Console or connect your monitor directly to a system to access the BIOS Setup Utility. In the BIOS Setup Utility, click the Advanced tab and scroll down to UEFI Configuration Synchronization. Press Enter to open the UEFI Configuration Synchronization menu.

Synchronization Late is enabled by default. Press Enter to enable or disable Synchronization Late. Save and Exit the BIOS Setup Utility.
