Les schémas sont des définitions qui décrivent les types d'informations pouvant être stockés sous forme d'entrées dans un annuaire de serveur.
Pour qu'un serveur d'annuaire prenne en charge les clients de noms LDAP, les schémas définis dans ce chapitre doivent être configurés dans le serveur, à moins qu'un schéma ne soit mappé à l'aide de la fonction de mappage de schéma des clients.
Plusieurs schémas LDAP requis sont définis par IETF : les schémas de service d'information réseau RFC 2307 et RFC 2307bis, un schéma de profil de configuration pour les agents LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) (RFC 4876) ainsi que le schéma LDAP des services d'impression. Pour prendre en charge le service NIS, il faut ajouter la définition de ces schémas au serveur d'annuaire. Les divers documents RFC sont également accessibles sur le site Web du groupe IETF à l'adresse http://www.ietf.org.
Remarque - Les brouillons Internet, tels que RFC 2307bis, sont des documents provisoires valides pour un maximum de six mois et pouvant être mis à jour ou rendus obsolètes, par d'autres documents à tout moment.
