You can adjust the sound quality using the Sound Tuning Wizard.

Step 1: Adjust the Playback Volume

The first page of the wizard steps you through the selection of a sound playback device and adjustments to the playback volume. When the wizard is launched for the first time (after installation or upgrade), the playback device defaults to the sound playback default device set in the Control Panel. You can override this default on the wizard by selecting a different device from the Playback device list box.

Note: Master volume and/or Wave volume controls differ by operating system. See your operating system documentation if these adjustment sliders do not appear in the Sound Tuning Wizard on your operating system.

Use the Play button to play a standard sound so you can adjust the volume settings.

Note: If you press the Cancel button, volume changes are not saved.

Step 2: Adjust the Recording Volume

The second page of the wizard steps you through the recording device selection and the recording volume settings. When the wizard is launched for the first time (after installation or upgrade), the recording device defaults to the recording default device set in the Control Panel. You can override this default by selecting a different device from the Recording device list box.

You have the option to manually or automatically set the recording level. If you choose to manually set the recording level, you can adjust the recording volume by moving the slider. The recording level meter is a color coded scale ranging from Too low to Too high with an Optimal recording level in between. Use the Record button to record sample audio and the Play button to play the sample to see the recording level. If you choose to automatically set recording levels, the volume defaults to 75%. When you record a sample, the level is adjusted to the 75% range.

Note: If you are automatically setting the recording level, the Recording volume slider is disabled but moves to the appropriate level during recording.

Step 3: Completing the Sound Tuning Wizard

The final page of the wizard confirms completion of the Sound Tuning Wizard. It reminds you that the wizard appears again if the device settings are changed outside of the wizard or that you can launch the wizard directly from the Sound Editor.

Note: Each time the playback or recording starts, the Sound Editor checks to see if the playback and recording device last used are still available. If the device is no longer connected, a warning message displays. You can reconnect the device and click OK or cancel to launch the Sound Turning Wizard.
