Purpose

This document includes important, late-breaking information about this release of Oracle Hyperion Provider Services. Review this Readme thoroughly before installing Provider Services in an Oracle Business Intelligence 12.2.1.0.0 environment.

Administration Services and Essbase Studio Are No Longer Available

Release 12.2.1 includes Oracle Essbase and Provider Services. Oracle Essbase Administration Services and Oracle Essbase Studio are no longer available and are not supported with Release 12.2.1.

References to Administration Services and Oracle Essbase Studio in the Essbase and Provider Services documentation set should be ignored.

Note:

In this release of Provider Services, because Administration Services is no longer available, you cannot perform many of the administration tasks that were done in Oracle Essbase Administration Services in pre-12.2.1.0.0 releases of Provider Services.

Installation Information

See the Oracle Fusion Middleware Installation Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence for information on installing Essbase in the Oracle Business Intelligence 12.2.1 environment. Provider Services is installed with Essbase.

Supported Platforms

See the Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c Certifications on the Oracle Fusion Middleware Supported System Configurations page on the Oracle Technical Network at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/fusion-certification-100350.html.

Supported Paths to this Release

Essbase 12.2.1 supports only two use cases, neither of which involve upgrading from a previous release of Essbase. See “Essbase 12.2.1 Use Cases for BI 12.2.1” in the Essbase Readme for 12.2.1.

Caution!

Oracle recommends using the same version of the Oracle Essbase and Provider Services products and components (server, client, runtime client, API, and JAPI).

Known Issues in this Release

The following are the noteworthy known issues of this release.

  • 17165723 -- Duplicate member names may be found in a spreadsheet when data is copied from one sheet to another and the Oracle Smart View for Office Member Name Display option is set to Member Name Only. This is because Excel does not retain the hidden qualified member names.

    Workaround:

In the Smart View ribbon, select Options, then Member Options, and then from Member Name Display, select Distinct Member Name Only, refresh the worksheet, and then copy and paste.

  • 21614760 -- The Oracle Smart View for Office Smart Slice capability is not supported in this release. Although you can create and edit Smart Slices, the underlying Smart Slice definition is saved in memory. So, when Provider Services is restarted, the Smart Slices are lost.

  • 21954031 -- Active-active Essbase clusters managed by Provider Services are not supported in this release. Although you can create an active-active read-only cluster, the underlying definition is saved in memory due to the new end-point manager based registry implementation. So, when Oracle Hyperion Provider Services is restarted, the clustering definitions are lost.

Documentation Updates

Copying and Pasting Code Snippets from PDFs

When you cut and paste code snippets from a PDF file, some characters can be lost during the paste operation, making the code snippet invalid. Workaround: Cut and paste from the HTML version of the document.
